  1. Default 200DX New Look and Function

Slightly different look to the 200Dx face along with the Pre-flow . The pedal on the new models now work with the panel setting the max amps and the pedal working to that limit ,

That torch looks really nice! Does it have finger control for heat?

Was looking at a 200dx myself. Does it use the same pedal??? I thought the control was on the pedal if so are there 2 control for the current???

That is the point of this post, to inform that the knob on the pedal is no longer on these welders and instead, it is controlled the same as the other welders.

Yes we have a few torches available . the amp range is from 5 to 200 and no preset max amps can be dialed in but it does give the flexability of controling the amps and not having to be dependant on the pedal for this .

Darn it I should have waited a few weeks to order mine. Oh, well guess once I learn how to use the one I got I will probably upgrade to a 250 EX.

Will the trigger be click on and off, or hold for power(constant depression)? Will the wheel be limited travel or continuous, like a mouse wheel? S/F....Ken M

Is there any reasonable way to upgrade an older 200DX (about 1.5 years old i think) to the new pedal/panel amperage operation?

The Tig torch Rotary Dial is limited to its rotation from low to high.
Just set the panel Switch to 4T mode and depress trigger one time and then dial temp up on torch as the amps are required or lower as needed. Keeping in mind of course that you have no set limiton the old 200DX

I have had some enquiry,s as to the feasability of retrofitting the new boards to the old models

For the new model 200DX the setting is completely different to the old . The new model also has pre flow added and to adapt the older version would mean having to not only change out the complete top board but it would need to have a Daughter board added for preflow.
I will discuss this with Engineering to see if it is a viable option to offer some type of kit at a somewhat reasonable price point but i am not overly confident that it will be done in a cost effective manner.

Let us know what you find out. The lack of a panel adjustment for voltage was one of my only real gripes with the 200DX. I could always sell it and buy one of the 225 or 250 units, but the money I loose selling it might be better off upgrading it since I really don't need the extra power.

    Thanks,

It will likely be something that will be more hands on ( when i have time at the factory level working with my little helper ) and seeing what the simplest solution may be . although to be honest i often use the 200DX and i do not really see the issues or drawbacks that a lot of people seem to feel are a hinderance. We certainly get a fair share of posts discussing the foot pedal operation so we decided that it was only prudent to bring it in line with our other models and of course with doing this we thought we might as well just add the preflow while we where at it.

For me it was just how I learned to weld. I can look at the type, size, thickness of metal I want to weld and know exactly how many amps I want to weld with. I have gotten used to dialing in the amperage I want and going to town. I just haven't gotten a feel yet for the foot pedal knob position to amperage correlation. I can work around it, don't get me wrong, but its not something I am comfortable with (yet?).

Will there be any price change on the 200DX with the newer pre-flow and foot pedal max amps adjustable at the panel?

Are these units available in the U.S. at this time?

Good to see the progress with this one and the 250-210ext's! I'll probably never be much of a tig weldor, but now I can call mine 'the classic' 200dx!
I read where somebody said they have always just set tigs at full blast and used the pedal, is that common?

Some welders only have 'full blast". Certainly could work, as long as you aren't tying to weld with very low amperage.

Also note the addition of arc force control on this unit, and the revised pulse settings so it works better with a foot pedal now. Those are two big improvements.

We will be trying our best to maintain the current pricing and in fact we We may be having a sale on these units for the first 2 weeks of March here in Canada
We will likely be offering a package deal on accesories along with a small discount on the new 200DX .
Availability is somewhere in the region of 6 to 8 weeks for the USA but it is best to check with them on this.

Sounds interesting... Of all the ones I was looking at the 200DX looked like it fit the bill the best. Looks like I may have to wait a while. But I am in no hurry... I have been looking for quite a few years. Although always anxious to get a new toy!!! Nice to see that it will be an upgraded model.
