wiring and breakers

from the web page it states the highest starting amps is 40 for the power arc 200 i will assume this is the same for the 160 as well correct? with a 60% duty cycle

i have a large amount of 8-2 uf which is rated for 40amps max 2 60amp breakers and a 50amp outlet with all that being stated will the 8-2 be enough for the power arc 160? it's being ran from the main service panel 60amp breaker buried and run to the center of my building with a outdoor outlet box

The 8-2 is enough for even heavier units. Duty cycle limited machines are allowed to operate on much smaller wire because the time limiting factor does not overheat the wiring. The 160 is about 34 amps or so max draw if my calculations hold up, at maximum settings.

There are similar rules regarding breaker sizing as well. You google "NEC welder wiring code duty cyle limited machines" and get a wealth of information.

The BASIC rule of thumb is take the maximum amps of the machine, multiply it by the duty cycle and use the minimum wire gage that supports the amps draw you have. But there are caveats as well in that. But still 8 gauge is plenty.

i thought so as well but always like to double check btw do you know exactly when ups will receive my power arc 160 and get it on the road towards here don't care if i have to drive to Shelby NC and pick it up at the terminal there
