Project 1 from Tritium, Welding Cart.
Here is my only project for this contest entry (ending October 25 2011). A welding cart. No welding rods, wire or electrodes were sacrificed for this project.
Materials List:
1 old roll around 3 drawer office filing cabinet.
4 unused heavy duty casters from a sam's club wire shelving unit (2 locking, 2 non-locking)
4' 1/2" EMT
2 1/2" "L" brackets
2' 1/4" by 2" cold rolled steel strap
2 1/2" by 2" bolts, washers and nuts
6 1/4" machine screws, washers and nuts
1 can black gloss spray paint
Procedure:
Remove old casters from filing cabinet.
Put the 2 locking casters in the same locations as the front 2 original casters.
Drill a hole in either end of the 1/4" by 2" by 2' long steel strap for the 2 remaining casters.
Drill 2 holes in the strap to line up with the 2 rear original caster holes in the filing cabinet.
Mount the strap / caster assembly with bolts to the rear of the cabinet. (this wider footing / outrunner at the back of the cabinet provides very good stability)
Bend the conduit to a "U" shape and flatten the ends for a handle for the cart and paint gloss black.
Drill 2 holes through each flattened section through the cabinet wall and mount handle with hardware from the list above.
Bend 1 leg of the "L" brackets in a hook shape and mount to each side of cabinet using 1/4" machine screws and hardware to hang work clamp / cable and MIG gun.
Set welder on cabinet.
Store consumables in drawers and mount "Paint ball gun" style C02 bottle with inline regulator in deep drawer routing hose to machine back for non flux core operation
Project done.
