Project 1, from scootarida1, Penn State Bottle Opener

This project was done as a part of a research project for Penn State University. This is a bottle opener that went through various manufacturing steps in order to get to a finished product. First the product was designed in SolidWorks and then each piece was cut out on a TorchMate Plasma Cutting Table. Then each piece was put into a CNC machine to get to the desired dimensions. The Body of the bottle opener is made out of 1/2" stainless steel and the inserts were cut from 1/4" aluminum. The aluminum inserts were anodized blue and an strong epoxy was used to attach them to the body of the bottle opener. The Penn State lion logo was engraved using a CNC machine.

Eventually Plasma Cutting was stopped because of the 1/2" stainless not being cut properly. The tip consumption was occurring too often so the bodies were cut from a WaterJet.

As you can see, the cavity shows where the anodized inserts would be. The inserts were cut just like the body of the bottle openers.

The top picture has penn state paws engraved into them but it is hard to tell. The bottom picture has the "Penn State" engraved into it.

The body of the holders were sandblasted before engraved to give a two tone look.
