Hello all,
I just purchased a 250 EX tig welder and have a question about the foot control. First off I have been using miller syncrowaves and thermal arcs. The foot controls on these machines are variable. What I mean by that is I can set the knob amps at 85 amps for max amps and can control the amps with the foot pedal from 0 to 85 amps. On the 250EX the foot control just seems to be a start switch. It does not change the amps at all. Is this normal operation for this machine?

It sounds like you are operating in 4T or the down lever of the foot pedal is bent so that it is not making contact with cog. Or it is possible to have a wire off in the foot pedal. Mike can walk you through diagnosing it. Call him at the number listed below, but choose his extension.
Fixed, foot pedal gears not aligned properly. Going to upgrade to better foot control. Welding thin wall Stainless tubing and stainless flanges. Awsome machine for the $$$.

The pedal offers great control, but the down lever can get bent or off to the side in shipping. A small block of plastic/nylon can be screwed down to the pedal to act as a guide if it is a problem. We are looking at adding a new pedal, but the current pedal offers exceptional resolution and control due to its long travel.

I seem to be having a similair issue with my PowerMaster 205. I took my foot control box apart, and the rack gear was sliding off the gear on the rheostat, but I still have this problem after fixing that. Even if I turn the rheostat itself while I am welding, I get no noticeable change. Is it just a bum foot pedal, or do I have something set wrong?
If you can put an ohm meter on pins 3 and 4 and push the pedal and get 0-47K ohms. And them move to pins 4 and 5 and get 47K-0. It is tracking right.Quote:
