Thread: adjustable 3d Hand

    Default adjustable 3d Hand

I have been looking at these on different forums for a while and decided to make my own. It is a bit different then most I have seen. I made the holding arm adjustable by milling a flat on the 3/8 rod and drilling and tapping the weight for a thumb screw.

Clever idea, I can see uses for that on production of small parts that need to be welded together.

That looks useful. Nice innovation with the adjustable head position!

    Thanks Jake
I think it will become a good addition to my tool box.
I was going to make different sizes but now with it being adjustable I think one will work at least for now. The front finger is also removable so I can make and easily use a different configuration finger if needed.

Here are mine, in fixed (nonadjustable) dimensions. I still want to build another one or two.

I TIG braized some silicon bronze (which consists primarily of copper, by the way) onto the sides and also at the tip of the one of these that I often use for a ground, (with my ground clamp grasping it as shown.)

Since braizing the bronze onto the electrical contact points, I haven't had to file or brush oxides off the electrical contact surfaces yet even once, and have had for the most part a nice reliable ground.

I also took notice of the little bit of extra mass the braize material added. (Small but significant!) I measured (sans ground clamp) 1.2 lbs on the one with the braize material, and 1.0 lb on the other one.

All the time I've been spending here is really making me itch for my unit to arrive.
