  1. Default Powertig 250EX vs Powerpro 256

    Hello everyone.
After some years I decided to buy a welding machine "full tig" without compromise, and after careful consideration of my choice had fallen on Powertig 250EX.
However I noticed that Everlast also produces the Powerpro256 that offers the possibility of plasma cutting, an important feature.
My priority remains the tig welding of aluminum, steel, titanium and magnesium, working on motorcycles since I need to weld almost all metals.
The technical characteristics of the two welders seem identical, the only difference being that the Powertig 250EX offers spot welding.
    Spot welding is really important?
The advice that I ask is: Given the choice between the two machines, and having as priorities the welding of all types of metals, such as welding machine would you recommend?
Attention to suggest, why then proceed with the purchase!

    Thanks to all!!!

    Regards.

    Pietro

I think you will be quite hard presed to exceed teh duty cycle on most machines, unless you are welding heavy gauge materials or trying to do production with very long weld lengths.
I also would imagine that very few people ever really need a spot timer. I suppose if you wanted to hook up a set of copper tongs and do resistance welding with teh power supply you coudl use it, but I don't think many people have a real need for the spot feature.

If you are going to do a great deal of plasma cutting, you may want to look into getting a dedicated machine for each process as it can take a bit of time to convert back and forth if you need to switch often.

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

Thanks John, I think your thinking is correct.

I think I will choose the Powertig 250EX.

    John,
In fact we do have a lot of people that call about using the spot feature. It can be used to power spot tongs or for making beautiful spot welds on body work with the tig torch. I have used it myself that way and it works beautifully.
