Default Torch connections on new 250

I've been thinking about getting a TIG welder. My main concern is always about replacement items. If I want to add a water cooled torch, are the connections on the new 250 the same as other major brands? Can I just order a torch on Amazon or elsewhere that will attach directly?

I prefer not to have to do any fabricating of adapters and buy a bunch of fittings. Some of the threads that I've read detail the guys spending a couple hundred on fittings and hoses just to make their favorite torch work with their Everlast TIG.

    Thanks.

    AC guy...The 250EX comes with a w/c torch.

I think you may be mislead...

The couple of hundred dollars you are talking about includes the torch, a very expensive one at that. We use standard fittings for our torches, just like Miller. The only fitting that is a stretch to find, is the fitting for the torch switch if you want to keep using that feature. The old fitting on the stock torch can be used with about any momentary switch. There are several threads here. The real money is not in the fittings but in the torch itself. Otherwise, any torch can be ordered with a Dinse 50 connector, and the gas/water fitting is about 3.00 or less.

The thread where the guy spent over $300 seemed rather complicated.

    http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...read.php?t=833

His issues included LH threads and RH threads and adapters.

It sounds like it took him a few weeks to round up the various parts and adapters, plus he made to have special hoses made...
I just wanted to know that was not the rule, but rather the exception.
    Thanks for clarifying.

Was all that just because of the specific torch that he chose?

Rugar was concerned about using his torch on other units without converting his torch to our specific configuration. Scheffer posted a thread where he made a direct connection without the adapters by using the insert type fitting. People have followed both of their styles. I think Scheffer's thread may be buried or it didn't make the changeover to the new version of the forum.

Not really. It was because he preferred to step into his LWS and buy everything he needed there. That was what they could do for him to make his system work with what they had on hand without ordering and waiting for parts or fittings. I have a 256, and I havent seen a torch yet that I couldnt hook up to my machine if needed. I ordered a single barbed gas connector that fits our machines and I interchange it with different torches. You just need to make sure you get the dinse 50 connector. That being said, I have an air cooled torch with a dinse 25 connector, so I just stuck the end of the 25 into a 50 off an old SMAW stinger. Works just like it's supposed to.

    No,
It was the fact he did not want to make direct connections with his torch because he wanted to use it on different welders with different configurations. Even though our are standard and easily available, from machine to machine, how each part is configured can vary.

    That was my thread.
For ALL the fittings and the adapter hose for the gas, plus a extension hose for one of the water lines that I didn't use, only came to $24.00. This means you can use nearly ANY brand torch that would hook up directly to a Miller or Linc, and make it work on the Everlast welder, using a Everlast cooler, for around $20.00. Even cheaper then that if you didn't want quick disconnects on every thing, which I did. Now I'm able to swap back and forth between my stock Everlast torch and my CK torch in about 30 secs if I take my time. I can also take my CK torch with me and hook it up to my friends Miller by just swapping adapters.

The rest of the money spent to get the price at $300 was the torch, dinse connector, leather cover for the leads, shipping and sales tax. A nice torch is expensive for whatever brand machine you get. There are much cheaper ones then the one I have, also much more expensive ones as well.

That makes sense now. The way the thread read, it sounded like you spent weeks rounding up $300 worth of parts to make your CK torch work with the Everlast welder.

$300 for that torch with the adapters and hoses is not a bad deal.

    Thanks for clarifying it.
