    Default Aviation Welding

I was wondering if anyone out there is doing any aviation welding and did he get FAA certification of any kind? I am in school right now working on TIG certification and I am a licensed FAA mechanic. Looked at all the FARs and found several talking about welding on aircraft but did not specify if you need to get FAA aproval just an aprooved welding certification which I take it to be something like an AWS certificate. Any thoughts?

Hey Peter" I have been in the aerospace industry most of my 31 yrs employed as a welder and never needed and FAA cert! if you don`t mind the expense and time involved in obtaining this cert then by all means It certainly could not hurt you" but if you are employed by some company in the business you will be certified by that company and they don`t care if you have 50 certs, it has never gotten me any more money! Hope this helps?
