Thread: SATAN z31... My car

  1. Default SATAN z31... My car

I figured I would post this since I just purchased an Everlast 225LX and plan on being here a bit.

This is my car. I have been working on it for many years. Now copy and paste time....

    Car is a 1985 300zx turbo A.K.A. SATAN Z31

I just repainted the car my self using HVLP guns and Satin black Urethane paint. I have about 60 hours just in body work alone, and my car wasn't even THAT BAD. I now have a new found respect for any body guy who is worth a ####.

Our cars are as far from each other as possible and still be cars. Mine runs close to the same times, but has no headlights no turn signals no brake lights, no wiring other than enough to make it start, no guages, no speedo, I wanted it to be least possible car that still functioned. No windshield, no side glass, no top, no bumpers. No paint, and I wash it with windex and a shop towel.
My wife recently made me put an alternator on it, and I did hook up the front brakes just to shut everyone up. So I now have two luxury items, front brakes and an alternator. There are a few things like 5point harness and the quick release wheel we have in common.

    Yours is a beautiful car.
I am out trying to 'find myself'. If I should wander back while I am gone, please tell me to sit quietly and wait for myself to return.

LOTS of scuba and vintage scuba equipment [I'm Always willing to trade or buy the stuff you think is too old to use]
Smithy XLT Mill/lathe [It was easier to learn than I thought, I'm no pro, but I can make a bearing hanger]

Did you fab the manifold and tank(s) yourself?

Any welding that has been done on this car (after it left the factory) has been by me.

    Aluminum sheet metal intake
    Stainless tubular headers
    Intercooler piping
    exhaust piping.
    Roll cage
    Fuel surge tank
    4130 sleeved Chromoly axles.
    Misc. stuff here and there.

I also make all of these parts for customers who own z31's as well. That is how I pay for my race car. The z31 300zx has a very large cult following but not very many aftermarket parts available. So I make stuff people want.

    I have a 96 S14 myself... Have an LS1 sitting in another S14 waiting for a transmission.
But that comes after my cherokee project now.

I know that feeling all to well. My son and I run an SRT-4 neon drag car that turns 10.3 at 143 and parts were hard to get when they (Dodge) were still building them, now it is almost impossible and some things are just not made so I have made many parts for our car. I have paid for my bead roller and Box and pan brake by doing some aluminum interior skins for other SRT guys. Its nice to be able to support, even partially, your hobby doing what you enjoy

I'd like to think I'm the guy they are talkin about when they say, "he could F%^& up a cannon ball in a plowed field."

Box and pan brake is from Enco. and the bead roller was made by a felow named Tom, he is known as courtjester on youtube he just finished another style and may want to sell the last one he built. Look him up or if you want give me your contact info and I will pass it on.

Sweet car, fab work is top notch. Gotta love the sound a turbo drag car makes down the track!!!!!

From the video it does look like a little fine tuning on the rear suspension good get you to the big end a little quicker. A couple hops caused excessive wheel spin at launch. Badass for sure though.
Build it, wheel it, break it, fix it, and repeat!!!!!!!
