Default Anybody use their 250 EX with the stick?

Anybody use their 250 EX with the stick? I am teaching myself to tig. I have done mig before. My first experience with welding was with a stick welder in my old bosses shop. Had to clean up a lot of rusty parts and wipe down a lot of messy hydrailic oil long before he would let me play with it. Kinda thought since it had the option on it, I would give it a try. Since I am no expert on it, I was curious if somebody had used their 250 and tell me how it was?

I have a 250 EX welder and several other machines and equipment to allow for small scale manufacturing and prototyping of inventions

I am located in Oregon about 20 minutes west of Portland

The answer to that is no. I haven't had a chance to use it on stick as I have other means to do stick ie: powerarc 200 & imig 205 which both do stick nicely. I would not buy a machine that didn't do stick. The 250 ex has stick capabilties up to 200A which matches the power arcs amps, so I expect if I do fire it up on stick it should do the job for me. Right now my 250ex is dedicated to my TIG learning when I have the spare time. For me TIG is a bit old school like back in 1960 when I took a course in gas welding. Stick is still the king and always will be for me.

Ive had mine for about six months now, and have never even plugged the lead in for the electrode holder. I bought it for a TIG machine. My MIG takes care of the rest.

You will find the 250EX stick welder quite well. I have MIGs as well, but sometime I need to weld outside and the stick is a quick, low cost, wind resistant solution and the 250EX has plenty of power. Give it a try, pick up some 6013 and 7018 rods, make sure you seal them when not in use. Also, make sure you have the polarity right with the stinger and clamp.

I use mine for stick sometimes. It's not the ultra best thing in the world, but it has no problem laying a good bead. Its a very competent stick welder. I could ramble some but in the end it will do what you need it to. Most of what I use stick on is when I cant reach with a mig lead. I have lots of welding cable around to go up around and in whatever I need.
