Thread: Add Mig to a PP 256

  1. Default Add Mig to a PP 256

Hey all i love my PP256 to death done alot of work with it so far, i recently bought a new home and i have taken on the roll of welder/ fabricator in my neighbor hood. Who is to complain about free beer and some cash on the side right? My question as in the title is simple i have been doing some welding for some of my neighbors that i find easier done with a mig, welding handles on lawn mowers and such, i dont mind tig'ing them but it would be nice to not have to prep so much for simple stuff. Is there a way to add a spool gun or something similar, maybe use a dead wire feed and power it using my pp256, in order to add wire feed to this awsome machine? Im looking more for someone that has done it then just theory, but i will be happy with any advice.

    Thanks!!

We answer this all the time here on the forum. In short NO. Google Constant Current versus Constant Voltage, and you'll see why.

It can work with something like a Miller Suitcase X-Treme 12VS set to CC mode but it will not work well and for what the Miller cost you could buy a mig.

    Miller Suitcase X-Treme 12VS wire feeder for the Bobcat with M-25 300A .045" gun / Bernard 400A 5/64" wire mig gun .

Hobart Handler 187 Mig / Fluxcore
