I was doing some vertical tig welds yesterday and reminded myself of what a comparative struggle these are to do nicely in stick or in mig.
Once you get accustomed to TIG, it doesn't seem to matter if it/s uphill, downhill or overhead, the beads turn out perfect or near perfect.
Although TIG is considered a slow form of welding, for me it saves a lot of time and effort by not having to constantly reposition the item being welded. With stick welding, I would always try to flat weld if possible and sometimes went to great lengths to accomplish this.
And then there is the job of spatter cleanup with other weld methods. Most of the time this ends up getting done halfheartedly or not at all!
