Thread: Contest Spaming and Spaming

I get comments all the time, "Nice Bike", "Sweet ride" typically from males (the women just wink and smile). I make the same remarks when I feel compelled. I do not sit in judgment of the commenter when receiving them, I graciously accept them, sometimes with a simple two word response "Thank you" or maybe just a nod and a smile. Do I feel cheated that the person did not inquire where I had my custom seat work done? Hell no, THESE ARE SHORTHAND CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN MEN! we DO NOT NEED EXCESSIVE DIALOG to feel accepted or appreciated. Now and then a person may approach and tell me how dangerous motorcycling is and stand there and try and "educate" me about their sisters, brothers, dentists friend who was crippled or killed on a motorcycle. I should value this dialog more? I think not. Now the timing issue has been parroted over and over. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FORUM it SHOULD be OK to thumb through the older posts as WE WHERE NOT HERE WHEN THEY WHERE MADE! As I said before this does NOT make the comment less genuine, IF THE POSTER is making irrelevant comments about a given post, then I'm with the lynch mob, heck I'll bring the rope. I work a lot, long hours, sometimes weeks between a day off, and when I had sufficient opportunity to dig into the archives I did, when I saw something that caught my eye I left a simple comment, plain and simple, no apologies.
I find your last sentence very telling, you basicly create and analog between yourself and the fairer sex by stating that both you and the woman in question would be offended the same way, many of us simply are not, nor are our bug finding children...
Ok Granted not everyone thinks alike, and I will gracefully bow out to you on this one as I am not one to argue over a petty problem that has no bearing on me and I have ongoing dialogue in many of the catagories here on the everlast forums and my post count for the contest was satisfied weeks ago.

Good luck to all of you and as you can see the Admins do get involved and the "Blatant" spammers will get ferreted out and dealt with.

Once the winner is picked, that is the time to review the post of the winner. We have had contest before and they always worked out fine. But no reason to check the spam until the end, unless it becomes very obvious, very annoying to others.

(I wish there was a thumbs-up guy in the smiley section.) Next let me say that this is a really good, thought-provoking thread. Let's take a close look at direct quotes from the rules for the contest.
"Any entrant making bogus or spamming posts to increase or “up” his/her post count will be disqualified. Any entrant having his posts removed by the moderator due to discourteous or inappropriate comments will also be disqualified."

Nowhere do I see a clear definition of "spamming", but as a guy of average intelligence, I know what it is. That same average intelligence now has me genuinely concerned, as I have given one-liners, sometimes due to time constraints, including once in this thread, but I thought it was truly funny. I hope that by "will be disqualified" they refer to the individual post, not the entire entrant, unless said entrant is only engaged in that type of behavior. If they were to disqualify every entrant based on that rule, then the majority of entrants are already out of the game (yes, I actually spend a good amount of time on this forum, and no, most of us are not perfect).

"Entrants are strongly encouraged to start threads of interest that they think are a value to others and post helpful and relevant information in existing threads as well."

I would hope that this includes commentary, and questions on older threads as well, one of the people posting on this thread resurrected a thread on Mark's Bar B QUE that had been dead for 10 months. In spite of the fact that it was old, it was great info on a really neat project that has inspired me to re-start a project that I have had laying dormant for years. A new thread could have been started, but hey, quality of content was already there.

"General chat posts concerning any activity, especially welding, discussion of other products or work related are welcome as well."

This would lead one to believe that it should be ok to give feedback on a particular subject no matter how eloquent one happens to be. Also to start threads relevant to whatever interests one. This would encourage one to become more engaged in this forum, which I believe is the whole point of this exercise.

So, there's my take on it, I hope the mods/admin clarify things a little, as I am concerned a little on how this will shake out. I convinced my brother to join this forum and as of today, he has 48 freaking posts to go in the next 2 weeks or so to qualify. I gave him a ration of u-know-what and he promised me he'd get r done, but the guy works his behind off, so I'm sure he would want to know what the criteria are, so he doesn't waste his time.
I still think this is one of the best contests I have seen in a long time, and I can see that the primary goal is to grow this forum and to expand the reach of the EVERLAST line of products. The size of the pool of contestants is really pretty small for such a sizable prize, and I would like to win as much as the next guy. I really do trust that the moderators will clarify this for all of us.

hey old threads with good info in them are a good mag with good pictures in it (yea those kind) . it may be at the bottom of the pile on the back of the crapper but eventually it will work it's way to the top again or fall into new hands.

Wruehl. nice web presence ya got there I also was into bikes big time before my career was ended by some idiot who hit me from behind on the highway while i was doing about 65-70 . Hit and run, never know if it was intentional or not (as you know some people just have it out for bikers) . The accident left me paralyzed from the chest down. I primarily rode sport bikes and raced 500cc gp. all my bikes were/are 4cyl 2 strokers Still have a Nice Semi-stock RGV500 Gamma as well as a full race RGV 500 and a Honda NSR 500 I was converting to a Rothman's Honda look-alike. I've nothing against 4 strokes but to me there is nothing like the sound of a GP bike comming on the power band @ about 9k rpm through a nice set of Toomey pipes. That and being able to raise the front wheel in every gear regardless of speed LOL

A few years ago my Girl and I where in Austin TX and met a fellow that made my dedication to cycling pale by comparison. This guy was paralyzed from the waist down and rode a BMW K bike with a homebuilt sidecar/hack. The floor is expanded metal as is the ramp. He just wheeled his chair on strapped it down and used his arms (they where huge) to lift him on the bike. The brakes are linked so the right hand does that, the shifter is pneumatic so he can just use a spare finger to change gears. He was an inspiration to us both. On top of that the Hippie Hollow passes on the dash, are to the nudist beach, how perfect is that....

    Good job.

I think it is a bit much to get all irritated about someone spam posting to get entered into a contest. The Admins are on top of it, nothing needs said, I myself have posted some "good jobs" and was not trying to "spam my way in" All this thread does is makes you guys look "trollish", and childish, I'm just happy for a 1 in 1000 shot at some free equipment, and Dang happy they have given me the chance. Lets not make them regret having the contest by making a huge deal out of this. If I don't win this one... I want a chance to win another.

It is a great forum, you guys just gotta quit belly achin and have a good time.

Now if this guy wins.... I say the everlast sales guys post up his address on the forum so we can all send hate mail....LOL
I'd like to think I'm the guy they are talkin about when they say, "he could F%^& up a cannon ball in a plowed field."

Your doing the same thing , but this late in the game with the topic changed a bit who looks like what now? Bleh.

Btw to Wruehl that is a cool set up. only problem is for me I would need some kind for support device as I am a high paraplegic and have no trunk muscles so I would have to replace the seat with a seat that has big side bolsters like a racing seat. Heck I was with my mom today and she made a left too fast and I fell over onto the center console hahahaha. I have a drivers license now but dont drive unless I have to, then very rarely with a rental car but it's a pain for me as I have nerve damage in my left arm which makes pushing a manual wheelchair very tough for me.

anyway I think we got a bit off topic but I think this topic of spammers is dead now anyway ... See ya at the big show and GL to all.
