Thread: Another bead roller conversion

    Default Another bead roller conversion

I just finished the third and final power drive conversion on my bead roller. First try was a HF 120v hoist motor worked great but no speed control, the second attempt was using a treadmill motor and controller but the speed controller would start at too fast a speed then adjust up and down ant the tq was not the best. This one is great I used a 12vdc wondermotor and 120 to 12v power supply and motor controller.
My bead roller is home made but not by me, a fellow in Fl made it for me. He has videos on you tube under courtjester I think. Here are some pictures.

I also built a foot pedal to control the speed from a crawl to full speed. The foot pedal was also with help from court jester. Thanks tom

I don't believe that at all, with the advice you have given me I know better. You like most of us on here can do about what ever you set your mind to..
I did not come up with that build myself but rather picked up an idea here and there while searching the web, I also had a lot of help from people that I have never met in person but they were willing to share their knowledge and experience with me. The idea , and even some parts for the foot pedal were given to me by Court jester you need to check out his videos on you tube he his quite a smart guy.
I try to share what little I know on this and other forums in hopes of paying back a portion of all the help, skill and knowledge I have received.

that foot pedal looks like something off the space shuttle!

I wonder if some of the same ideas could be applied to the Everlast pedal in order to give the user a pedal that is flat on the floor? Then again, I know the Everlast pedal has been redesigned since mine was built, maybe they already have something like this.

Having controlable power on there will make all the difference, especially when doing curves or other intricate shapes.

And by Space shuttle you mean based on 60's era Apollo program technology?

Looks great, found the vids on youtube, awesome.

    some questions

    Are both rollers powerfed?

Looks like a power supply from a computer, they have a 3V 5V and 12V output, will that work?

second, is that a wipermotor? and what make model, because I know some are very short, and could you post up a schematic? wondering how you wired up the rheostat or variable potentiometer or whatever?

    Nice work man.

The motor is from Wondermotor on E bay but Google wondermotor.com and you will get their site. they have a great selection of motors and Seing the owner worked with me to get the best one, he will know what you need if you tell him it was for the Bead roller Ray Built. Do not get their power supply I got one on line from virtual village that is higher in amperage.
The motor comes with a rheostat but I put a 5k in the foot pedal and wired it like the factory one. If you go that route PM me and I will help you all I cacn

thanks for the info, I'm going to order the northern tool roller, and beef it up. does your roller have the sam quick adjust lever courtjester uses? and if so do you have any idea where to get the little lever? looks like a quick-set but I can't find one that is the same... I think that is the way to go, no more adjusting with an allen wrench, just unclamp, adjust the bolt a little, and re-clamp.

are both dies on yours power feed?

do you think it would be worthwhile to try and lenghthen the throat on the northern tool roller? is 18" deep enough to roll that awesome door panel on the neon? that is the type of project I'll most likely be doing, inner fenders, door panels.... for my rock crawler...

thanks for the info, and thanks for the info on courtjester, he is very nice guy and e-mailed me back same day, has 1 bead roller for sale still or offered his help in building my own... an awesome guy for sure.
