    I'm the newest guy... that guy down below is just a freshman now.

    Just ordered a PowerArc 200. Should be here next Wednesday. This is my first foray into welding. I've played with a 110v Weldmark mig for a few minutes (literally) but have never tried a stick.

    This should be interesting. Lots of very basic questions will probably be forthcoming. I've looked for a local "intro to stick welding" class, but with no success. I'll be learning by doing and reading/asking questions on the all knowing internet.

    I see a few names from TBN that I recognize, I am the same Haywire there.

    Welcome Haywire, some cheap advice for a newby, just weld in a straight line, keep you eye on the front edge of the puddle, forget the side to side motion that comes later when you can control the puddle. We all have a tendency to look behind the puddle to see how we are doing, that is when you screw up. What's done is done only a grinder and another pass can fix that, always look forward, you can pat yourself on the back and admire your weld when you finish the weld not half way along the process..
