Hobart 335A 6011

I've seen this mentioned several times with folks talking about it being good rod. I bought some Hobart 6011, but nowhere on the package does it say 335A.

Are there different 'models', for the lack of a better word, of the same stick? I mean, is there a Hobart 6011 out there with a different prefix number that has different characteristics or does Hobart make one 6011 and sometimes they mark the box, and sometimes they don't. Of the 3 boxes of rod that I bought, there's 2 different styles of label.

Just trying to get my mind wrapped around what I'm reading.

That is a description of 335A, but doesn't really answer my question related to if there were different versions of 6011. I thought since my box of rod wasn't marked 335A, maybe they marketed different quality levels of the same thing.

I looked at their site and they only listed one 6011, but didn't call it 335A. They did have numbers like that for the specialty rod below that though. Hence the confusion. http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/electrodes-wire/

Aha... went to the Lincoln site. Now they have different flavors of the same thing. Fleetweld 35, 35LS, and 180 are all 6011 rods, and Fleetweld 5P, 5P+ and Pipeliner 6P+ are all 6010.

I know of two different types of the Hobart 6011s. The first style is a white rod that just has 6011 printed on it. It comes in the 5 and 10 pound plastic containers that say hobart, not weld it. These rods are kind of crappy.they don't tolerate low voltage machines, there is a lot of splatter, and the bead is really rough.

The second style i came across is a tannish red color and says HOBART Stick 6011. I have only seen these in the 1 pound containers. These rods are the cats meow! They burn very smoothly, almost like a 6013. They have good penetration and leave a very nice bead with a full coating of slag. They also work very good on low voltage machines.

I've been purchasing Hobart Rods because they are easy to get at Northern Tool and Tractor Supply. The last ones I purchased 6011, 6013, & 7018 have all ran like crap. I guess I need to put them in my oven for 30 minutes or so, but I have always had good luck with rods out of the box. The 5lb box cost around $20.00. A local welding store sold me a 5lb box of 7018 and 6013 for $7.50 each for a 5lb box. It was an off brand that I have had good luck with in the past. I think the rods at Northern Tool and Tractor Supply may be sitting on the shelf for a while.

The data sheet on the 335a says "Dry at room temperature, humidity below 50% should be avoided;
at no time should this electrode be stored in an oven above 130°F."

I think I've answered my own question above. When you search for Hobart 6011 on their site, the only two that come up are 335A and 335C. According to the literature, 335C is only available in 50lb cartons so what I have must be 335A by default.
