Thread: Jakeru, Everlast Forum MVP

    Default Jakeru, Everlast Forum MVP

    I nominate Jakeru as Everlast forum MVP of the year.

    Along with the nomination, I propose starting a paypal account to send Jakeru some cash for experimentation purposes. This would consist of various filler / electrode tests on various base metals, along with developing "solutions to those hard to fix farm jobs. In return, we should start an "Information for guys that have welders, but aren't really welders" forum where Jakeru can start posting up his findings and combinations of filler, tungsten, machine settings, prep, etc. This will allow for a quick reference for pretty much any welding combination we may encounter.

    The money in the account can be used for purchase of materials, consumables, beverages of choice (Pepsi, Pabst, Panther Piss, whatever you choose), etc, in return for his experimentation and development. In addition, users can feel free to send in different brands of consumables, base materials, etc for him to try and post results.

    I'm in... I'll throw money in as the info is very valuable. Heck, might be a good subsidy for his side welding business.

    Thanks Jakeru for all that you do and share.

    (seriously consider what I mentioned, a "machine setting sand filler combinations for dummies" list woudl be quite helpful).

    I don't know. All I have done is spend money since he responded to my first post on this board . Well it was inevitable anyway but it is nice to blame yet another hobby on someone although Oleg and his low e-bay prices have a bit of the blame also. Yep I'm in, BUT I do not do PayPal as they support activities with cash that fight directly against some of my constitutional rights .

    What say you Jakeru? Are you in (probably the most important part).

    don't think you need to do anything like this, I just saw that you seem to tackle everything with your welder and , if you are interested, I know I'd send you some other brand consumables to try and of course some beverage support :-)

    OK guys, I'm in! (How can I refuse? )

    Thanks for the support and appreciation; I was speechless when I first saw this thread, didn't know how to respond at first. I figured I'd better send a reply so as to not "leave you guys hanging."

    If you guys have a welding project you wanted me to try tackling at a reasonable rate, or just want to submit a donation, send me an IM. I'll reply with my business contact info, (which at this point I'm a bit hesitant on broadcasting publicly.) But any general "beer fund", consumable or other donations will not be rejected!

    But yeah I'd be happy to try out different things you guys may be interested in learning about, especially if you guys help support the effort. (And to keep on writing about them for the good of the community, of course!)

    A few things I'm interested in learning more about how to weld:
    * exotic metals (titanium, copper, anything else?)
    * helium/argon mix shielding gas - always wanted to try it, or pure Helium.
    * developing techniques to weld with cheaper equipment (IE: aluminum using DC-only TIG machine)
    * perhaps figuring out or learning how to get that particular, yet elusive aesthetic look we've seen someone make
    * maybe learn more about the usefulness of different welding machine features (or third party add-on gizmos / etc)
    * better understanding of inert gas shielding, maybe how to better visualize it. I think its hard for a lot of us, because we can't see it!
    * pre-heating / post heating techniques
    * Useful metallurgy stuff

    What else are you guys interested in learning about? Not saying I can help everyone with every question - far from it. When I don't know something, I won't pretend to.

    If anyone else wants to contribute to our overall learning, I would hope to foster that as well. Maybe we could eventually put together a "Welding Technique FAQ" of sorts. (Not just all by myself.)

    I'm glad Jakeru responded (and said "yes")- it's a lot to ask to be MVP. The paparazzi, the talk show circuit, the girls, the endless concert tours... really an invasion of his personal life. I predict he will own a gold car, develop a passion for peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and use a pistol to turn off a welder.
