Thread: Wirelless foot pedal

  1. Default

Oddly enough, it would appear Miller does not own the patent for it

It's a cool idea, but fighting the electrical interference might be very difficult.

realistically what purpose would you use a wireless pedal have?? I`ve done lost of vehicle body repair and most of the time a pedal is just in the way, stationary welding bench its just as easy having a wired pedal, it would drive the price of these welders way up.

I don't think I would use a wireless much either, it may be handy at times, but I'm tired of things with batteries going dead.

A wireless would be cool if you could also plug a cable into it, so it could be either wireless or corded. Also when it was plugged in it would charge the battery. That would be the best of both.

I once seen a guy saw the end off an Anvil in school does that mean the anvil was a POS or ..... Perhaps in the right hands anything can be destroyed? Hmmmmm? I wonder???? I will still defer back to ..... Ask any 100 welders by trade who makes the NUMBER 1 machine and Miller will be all you hear. I've never seen a new Lincoln that anyone was happy with. Lincoln has tried to lure customers with some video game looking control board with lots of factory presets so someone with no experience can simply select number 2 and the book says it should weld XYZ set to that setting... Again talk about something that don't belong in a welding shop.. A control screen that looks like a video game don't belong there at all. The Dynasty is pushing the limits of what should and shouldn't be in that kind of environment. That's nothing but a sales gemic that lures people that are more impressed with looks over function. As rated output ..... No one tops the Dynasty 700 for single phase out put and you did say top of the line Lincoln so let's not compare it to the second in line Miller... Apples to Apples is only fair... And 40% duty cycle is just sad.. So you can weld 4 min out of 10? WOW that's stellar !!!! How many Lincoln machines have you had the cover off of? How old was that Dynasty you claim was broken? I went into this knowing that in 5 to 7 year s any inverter machine will need replaced ! They aren't designed to last like a Gen type machine. By that time it will have paid for itself at least 50 times so tossing it out back will be just fine.. I once seen a Ferrari with a spun main bearing does that mean all Ferrari's are junk? In your book one machine that so far you have given no history on you claim had a problem so you decide and post all of that Family of machine are no good based on never owning either and no first hand experience with either.. I can't say about the Lincoln because I haven't used one and for that matter don't know a single person that has ever owned one.. I know several people that own Dynasty's and not one single person I know with one has a bad thing to say about it including me.. The only people that complain about them seems to be the people that have never owned or used one but somehow they have the inside track on information about them and how terrible they are.. Funny how that seems to be the way.. However I have owned an Everlast and I have posted the good and the bad about that machine. I won't say it's junk but I can't say it's as refined as Miller either.

I board was shot it was 3 years ago and the machine was well used dynasty 200. I didn't say millers were junk. They are good welders. I just liked the invertec better. However two of the same machines can weld different so who knows. What kind of turbo turbo systems do you build? Like I said I have a turbo buick so I love turbines.

The Dynasty 200 is an entry level Dynasty just as the Syncrowave 200 isn't anywhere near as well built as the Syncrowave 250.. Notice the price difference between each of these machines compared to the next step up.. On the Dynasty 200 they also make a DX and a lower end model for an even cheaper price... Just as Oleg offers several different levels of machines based on specs and price.. Not everyone will want to spend the money a Dynasty 350 or 700 cost and from looking at the Lincoln it appears to be in the 10K range as well. Personally I'm against companies making low end machines and placing the name of their higher end machines on it as a sales tactic. It confuses the uninformed and lowers the reputation of the real deal machines. You can make the best of anything and all it takes is one bad product to get into the right hands that will raise enough hell and your name is shot. Believe it or not the first Dynasty machine I was ever around I didn't like because the owner somehow didn't have the operating manual for it and trying to fumble your way around inside that control panel blind is impossible! In 2007 I traveled to Vancouver, BC Canada to set up a brand new street rod shop from the ground up and I purchased Syncrowave 350's in that shop over the Dynasty because I had only been around that one machine and my experience with it was limited and I needed equipment that I could be up and running right out of the gate. Today I can honestly say that was about the single most BONE HEAD move I've ever made specing and purchasing equipment in my whole life time.. I even argued with the electrician sent out to wire the place because he was saying the Dynasty was the only way to fly. Lack of knowledge produced wrong choices and today I realize that. I set that shop up 20 years behind the current technology and have probably caused them to produce a lesser quality of work than they could have. My bad is all I can say now. The Syncrowave 350 is a great machine and I've used one a great deal but it's far from a Dynasty 350 now that I have caught up myself with technology. I still know welders using 30 year old and older machines that can produce welds that are very difficult to match for all but the best most talented craftsmen I know. I'm sure that Oleg's EXT machine in the right hands can and will produce results second to none once the bugs get sorted out. However it just isn't as refined as the Miller and in all honesty who would expect it to be? It's not even 1/3 the cost so corners had to cut somewhere. When the welding starts and the bull crap stops it handles the job.. However it's a little less refined in the areas of noise and attention to details including adjustments and over all quality. When I bought one I figure at 1/3 the cost I could buy 3 of these to every one Dynasty. I still see it that way but I will keep the Dynasty as my main go to machine that I base my little business being able to count on to make money without worry of being stranded. It may quit tomorrow but I have no doubt one phone call will result in a replacement being here the next day covered by my dealer until Miller makes good to them. 90% of the cost I was willing to pay was for service after the sale that wasn't over a week away ..

i know a story behind the pedal ... very interesting ..

Guy who invented the pedal pitched to Miller and Lincoln. mistake that he did that he DIDNT patent the pedal on time.
Lincoln got the deal and now suing Miller. Miller ripped off that guy basically

I build hot rods too. My father got me into them. Not technical a hot rod but I love my buick. That car is so much fun to drive. Next I have to build a 67 impala. I watched supernatural too many times and started to love that car.

Ahhhhh. Interesting. I only searched for miller patents. Oddly enough, that patent even mentions connecting it to a miller welder.
I'd be curious to know the story. Haha.

Patents are a tricky business. My mentor/senior engineer has a patent on a control system for an electrical test instrument (Keithley SMU). One time an IC rep was pitching an all-in-one type IC to function much like an SMU. Upon hearing this "novel" approach, he just went silent for a second and responded with "Yeah, I know the idea behind that. I have a patent for it.". Stuff like that happens ALL the time in the electronics world especially since it's very hard to see "under the hood" on electronic devices like you can for mechanical ones. Funny coincidence, he co-oped back at Lincoln back when he was in college.

The patents that will kick your butt are the abstract ones that cover a huge range of things. From what I saw, that wireless pedal patent is pretty abstract, which stinks for people trying to replicate the idea.

I found one patent for Lincoln, which was issued for 2010. The one I dug up not related to either was issued in 2008 I think..

Go figure...... Big business stealing food right out of the mouth of someone that is truly deserving. I was bidding on one on eBay that was cheap until the last few minutes of the auction and I wasn't willing to go past my set price for it because I don't need it I just wanted it because I like toys like every other man I know. Anyhow when I was talking to my Miller sales man he told me that he had sold only a few and out of them no one was 100% satisfied with it's performance compared to the wired unit.. Maybe it's more refined now who knows but the only way I'll ever have one will be finding it dirt cheap and buying it that way.. It's not worth 600 of my money.. I would much rather try that CK torch mounted amp control and a nice new 300 amp CK torch that uses WP20 parts!! That rocks !! I'm impressed with the CK products over the Weldcraft industry standard! I own all weldcraft and once more I'll admit being late to the dance on this.. CK has the Weldcraft product covered with ease! Like I have said many times there's always a better mouse trap out there if you look hard enough for it. I'm old with an ill temper and short fuse when it comes to someone arguing about things I have devoted my life to being the best I can be at. Oleg has told me of a German company that produces the finest welders made in the world.. DO I HAVE ONE ? NO!! Would I like one? You bet.... All I had to hear was German and I didn't need to hear anymore! They make the finest of EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD !!! Best guns,Knifes,Cars,Motorcycles, Precision Machining equipment, and I'm sure welders if they decide to build one.. That Hitler guy was right about at least one of his ideas... They really are a superior race of people and seem to have always been.. American wouldn't be where it is today without German help! I have my personal favorites but I'm not blind that there's always something better..

Around the time when they invented ac current the one guy I don't remember his name waisted all his money trying to build wireless electric poles. He wanted to make the electricity travel from one place to another like a radio signal. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever get there. However though a hundred years ago they wouldn't be able to conceive half the stuff we have.

I've brought this up before, a great setup would be if you could leave the pedal plugged in and use it at the bench and also have the finger trigger plugged in at the same time, with an override circuit that would disable the pedal when you push the trigger and be able to use the trigger as a standard 2t at set amps.

This would let you weld at the bench with the pedal and tack on the jig with the trigger without swapping plugs 50 times a day.

Edit: Everlast can use this idea, royalty checks could be sent directly to me ( joke ).

The torch switch only uses the two wires. So I wonder if you spliced the torch switch into the pedal plug I think it might work. The torch switch would be open when you use the pedal so it wouldn't mess with it. Then when you use the torch switch the pedal circuit would be open so they wouldn't mess with each other. I am not an expert on the plug pinouts and am just speaking from my basic electrical knowledge. Kind of like how a three way light switch works. Also you could put a connector on it so you could plug and unplug to the two wires from the pedal harness otherwise the pedal would be stuck to the torch wires.

Haha, don't knock Tesla. The HF arc starter in modern welders is technology he pioneered with the tesla coil.

And he did send very large amount of power very large distances. The problem is taking that power and making it useful again after recovering it. As a first order, all the electronics needed after the transformer in your welder would be needed in the wireless torch. Not so feasible.. Power electronics technology today just can't support it.
