Thread: Stick output of PU205

    Default Stick output of PU205

The weld ouput for the pu205 is listed on the general info page here for multifunction units. The heading is "Weld ouput Amps GTAW/SMAW , 60%/35% duty cycle" .For the PU205 the number shown is 200/160. I take this to mean maximum output on TIG is 200 amps, duty cycle is 60% and for stick maximum ouptut is 160, duty cycle is 35%.

From this same page click on the PU 205 for more detailed info and the page that comes up has a different number for stick. It has a heading "Stick Rated Amps @ Duty cycle which lists the output as 200 amps rather than 160, no number for duty cycle.

The machine readout indicates 200 amps max for both TIG and Stick. It certainly seems like it is putting out 200 amps on both, in fact it acts like about 220 amps stick when compared to my Miller or P+H.

Just thought I should check the numbers, especially the duty cycle as I have an onsite job coming up that will require a fair amount of stick welding right around 180 amps.

In the past I have used my Miller/Onan for this kind of stuff, but it suddenly occured to me that there is 240 volt power on the jobsite, so the little portable unit will do the job and may come in handy for cutting as well. Much quieter and no gasoline to buy!

Missprints are always possible, as you tell it , it sounds more like 200/160 @ 60 % and 200 stick @ 35%, which to my mind is possible. Proof is in the actual use as you have indicated. Only way to tell is hang a meter on it, wouldn't surprise me to find out it's 200 @ 35% stick. Which would be good. However even with a 160 amp rating, it should burn all 1/8 rods and most 5/32 rods except 7014 & 7024 which might not burn as well due to the amps only reaching the median range for those 5/32 rods according to the spec's. But theories are only theories until put the test in the field.
