Thread: Ideas for future Everlast Welding contest.

Default Ideas for future Everlast Welding contest.

The contest was great and has ended. So now what do we do?

We are now looking for ideas on future contests.

We were very happy seeing our members working as a team, getting to know each other even if it was over a computer screen. I really liked when someone answered a question before us tech guys got to them (if it was the right answer ).

I'm sure Mark and Ray will mention there was a little more reading to do than normal, and I agree, but all in all it was a great success.

Let us know sum of your ideas...

a few days back I read a post where the guy said to scribe a line to help lay beads...it really helped me focus so how about best tip of the week/month and then have a drawing of the best tips for the price.

A good scribe for that, as Mark mentioned before, that 100% tungsten electrode pack you no longer need. hahaha..

Not a bad idea, we do have a cheap and dirty shop tricks thread in the Members Lounge area. Maybe a contest/$$$ will get more secrets out in the public as the thread was not as popular as I thought it would be.

Idea for another contest, just kicking around:

~ A "bring a friend" contest: get a friend to join the forum, then he / she AND the sponsoring member are entered in the contest, with a qualifying number of posts from both. The friend can't be your non-welder spouse, non-welder GF, or your imaginary friend from childhood. Extra points if the new member is a she and looks good in Carhartts (just kidding). Oxide doesn't get to sign up every student in his class. OK yes he does, but he only gets one chance in the contest (just kidding, Oxide). This would help expand the membership base. Moderators would need to find a way to include "unsponsored" new members who find the sites by themselves. I liked my chances in the 1 in 27 pool, don't get me wrong, but this is a good group of people, and more members would be a better group of people, and more people on the site means more exposure for Everlast (the point of the whole deal).

You could give away a PA 200 once a month, to be elgible you have to be a group member, that's currently 1360 approx, but it would grow as people as more people realized all they have to do iwin s join and post at least once. The winner could take the PA 200 or use the eqiv amount towards a bigger unit if he/she disires.

Come christmas time you could up the ante, that would keep them watching.

This is what I am thinking. With most everything in life there is some give in take. Since Everlast is willing to give something away to customers and members of this forum for promotion, then maybe the customers/members of the forum could give something back. Youtube has become a very popular way for businesses and all types of companies, schools, churches, etc to get information out. So I am proposing a contest where the winner who has to be a member of the forum or Everlast customers; who produces the best Youtube video commercial for Everlast. Not a normal product review, but something that would highlight the welding machine and a project. Come up with some basic criteria for the video that needs to be met. You would have to consider that not everyone has an expensive camera, I would shoot the video from my phone or Ipod nano.

This is a very good one as well. Even setting up a machine contest to help others? Not everyone has the time or camera. But Oleg will have to think on this one. And Jody Collier is not allow to enter. I can see all the smiling faces go to a frown when he uploads one to the contest.

I think the contest you just had was pretty great. Maybe next time narrow it down to members whose posting name starts with "W", just to make it interesting.

I will run that by the boss. hahaha.. Or maybe you have to be from Wa.?

Only thing I think we did wrong, it should have been cut into 3 or 4 prizes (less cash. more winners). KenWhite is probably going sure, you guys do that NEXT time..

Don't get me wrong it was great. But it was the first time for that contest and all the comment, joking, etc, were fun. I did not like it at first (or Ray) as we have to search for people that need help with the extra traffic. But then, next thing you know, Mark, Ray and I are normal folks chatting too. We got used to it pretty fast.

I think that is a good idea, or offer a welding helmet or some type of accessory for 2nd and 3rd prize. A discount would be a good prize also like 25% off a purchase.

And if a discount, give the winner a year to use it so there's ample time to put some actual green cash back for remainder of the purchase.

I was thinking of videos too, with the idea of fleshing out the video section on the main Everlast site. The MIG section there has no videos, altho the TIG section has some offerings. My original thought was a MIG video contest, but that would have left a lot of people out.

Any video contest might "suggest" the use of video editting software, and maybe recommend a freeware download. One of the things that makes Jody's videos so helpful on WT&T.com is what is *not* there: during a weld he edits out the buzz of the machines and crackle of the arc, and puts in a voice-over. There's more to it than bungeeing a #10 lens over the camera!
