Northern Tool 5x8 Trailer

Northern Tool has their 5x8 carry all trailers on sale for $329.00. They come without a floor, and they are really designed for wood floors, but I had some expanded metal already laying around. I added some angle to stiffen up the trailer, I also wanted to make sure the expanded metal had something I could weld to. Most all of the angle was left over from other stuff, that is why I used different sizes. I hope to finish up all the welding tomorrow. Not a bad trailer for the money, it just needs a little stiffening up.

I finally finished it up for now! I will probably add more to the trailer in the future, but for now it will work.

Sean, I think you need some additional support along the frame rails, that angle iron outer frame won't take much of a beating, may I suggest 1 1/2 heavy wall square tubing around 3 sides stitch welded (2 1/2 long spaced 4 inches apart) to the outer frame. The problem with such trailers is everyone overloads them. What started out as a trailer for the lawn mower ends up hauling bulldozers and the like, add to the fact we all haul them at 30 miles perhour faster than the speed limit, cause we built it and we know it will haul that fast and you can see the problems happening. For 329 bucks and a little work on your part it should last and do the job at the right price.

I plan to add more support, I just used what I had laying around. Right now I am just going to haul my tools and generator, and I am pulling it with a Scion XB so I am limited to how much I can haul.
