Thread: mts 200 and 160 specs.

Default mts 200 and 160 specs.

Rightfully, many have asked about some of the finer spec details of the 200S. I have created the following chart in hopes that it will give some better idea of the details as well as a better close up of the panel, though I have posted it before. I am going to post some "uncensored" pictures of it so you can see some of the basic detail and in comparison to the I-MIG 160/ 200.

    Sorry,
When I was creating the chart, I was interchanging the use of MMA and stick....too tired when I did it. Same thing. Hope you understand. Here's some more:

wow, I wish this had come out a few months ago... it looks like a slick unit

I have a couple of questions about it

what's the waveform knob do? I thought it was a DC-only machine?
what does the wirespeed/amps read out in in MIG mode? amps, IPM, a 'number'?
does the wire size selector do anything but calibrate the wirespeed readout? what about when you're not in MIG mode?
can you use a spool gun with it? it looks like the footpedal control plug is the same as the spoolgun plug on my IMIG200.

about the only thing I'd like to see is a separate gas inlet for MIG and TIG. apart from that detail, it looks like you can leave both set up and click a button and switch modes.

sorry if these are answered somewhere else.

It is DC only. Wave form modifies the inductance of the MIG as in waveform/slope control and the Arc force of the stick. Wire speed is in m/min. Wire size selector sets up in Synergic mode the parameters for automatic adjustment of volts as you manually increase wire speed. To use it manually and normally you just press ALT and you go into normal MIG mode. You cannot use a spool gun with it. It is designed for use with a teflon liner, has a short gun and use with 1 mm aluminum wire. This unit is purposefully designed this way and has been tested...it works largely due to the synergic function. Unit does not have a foot pedal. It uses 2T/4T control with lift start for TIG. Wire size selector does nothing and becomes inactive when in other modes. There is not enough room to provide separate solenoid circuits and is easy enough to change the gas quickly with a y valve installed. But typically this is not going to be used rapidly back and forth between processes.

can you hook a foot pedal up to it? that's going to be a bit of a deal breaker for me, personally. everything else looks great.

variable inductance is a great feature to have. my grandpa's old millermatic had variable 'slope' and I've always missed having it since.

    Thanks for clarifying.

No, the unit does not have a foot pedal. It doesn't work with a foot pedal. But many welding schools these days aren't training with foot pedals for DC tig. They are using inverter power sources such as the XMT units without the foot pedal. It creates a better, more knowledgeable welder with better techniques and understanding of amperage control. In the majority of DC tig welding, in factories, plants etc, a foot pedal can't be carried around.

Any idea on how much the these units will be priced at? My brother has an old Miller 35 mig welder that should be put into a museum. It doesn't have the adjustability that he needs.

I guess I'm just not your target market. Because it's multi-process, I thought it'd be more aimed at smaller shops, not industry. I really need the footpedal for sheet work. Sure, some people don't, but I do.

Digital and synergic aren't aimed at smaller shops/home hobbyists, generally. Look at any of the other manufacturers and you get crap for hobbyist/small shop levels compared to what more advanced units are aimed at. Though that doesn't preclude the unit from being used in one, its just got a different market appeal. No one machine fits all customers. You might want to look at an I tig 200.
