Default Q about new digital series TIG

I was reading up on lincoln's invertec line, and one of the features that they have that no one else seems to be offering is control of the starting current. I was wondering if that's going to be a parameter for the new digital 250ex?

I end up having to weld on a lot of thin sheet (equivalent of 24ga-26ga, after rust pitting, ect) and being able to dial that arc starting current down would be great.

(edit) guess I'm retarded. you can do that with the dynasty 350, too.

The adjustable start current has NOTHING to do with foot pedal use. It is for 2T or 4T operation only. You stated you were a foot pedal guy, so I doubt you'd ever need it. Our standard 250EX has this. If you haven't found it already, go to weldingtipsandtricks.com. Jody OUTWELDS the Dynasty with the 250EX on a coke can. Even out 200DX will start at 5 amps DC and 20 amps AC with the foot pedal.

The 250EXT is a completely different unit than the 250EX, not even in the same ballpark from the ground up construction and design wise. But it will have the same low amp start as the 250EX and many of the standard features of 250EX and then some.

we're not talking about the same thing. I AM a foot pedal guy, but the millers and lincons give you control over the current and duration (at least on the dynasty 350) of the arc starting amperage. like, the set current that starts the arc for a few milliseconds. miller's default, according to their advanced panel options youtube video is 30a for 4 mS. I think lincolns was 40a with no given time. I'm assuming this function is a requirement of arc starting, so I'm assuming that the everlasts have some form of arc starting amperage and period. I'm merely wondering if we're going to have access to it.

I understand what you're getting at, the 2t/4t starting amps control, and I guess I didn't explain what I was asking about well enough. sorry

No, It doesn't have any control like that. However, I have had a die hard Miller fanatic blown away by the start ability of the EXT. Our low amp starts are at 5 minimum. But what you are asking about, according to what Miller has on their site, we don't have that. The reason they state why the amp start is adjustable is to improve arc starting either for long cable use where power can be lost or for large diameter tungstens. Its a little gimmicky. If the starts are poor at long distances, a simple adjustment of the HF points can be made. I've not seen any long distance start problems. Largest diameter tungsten I used with it is 1/8 but not a trace of problem. Miller uses the switched capacitive discharge start now, which can make things a little different when starting arcs and may need a "boost" for long distances.
