When you hook the wires up to the new pot (be it a turn or slide pot).. make sure that the wires that were on the outer two terminals, stay on the outer two terminals, or in the case of the slide, the equivalent two terminals. Make sure that the center wires stays on the center. You can reverse the outer two wires, just don't mix them with the middle wire. It may or may not be obvious on the slide which are the "outer" two terminals, and which is the center.
Hells bells, didn't even think about the wiring of the slide type. Maybe I can figure it out with a ohm meter.

I just scoped the voltage across the pot in the pedal. It is 3.25 volts of very pure DC.
With a 50k resistor (the pot), and 3.25 volts, the power lost is 0.000 21 watts.
The slide pot is rated at 0.2 watts. You will be dissipating 1000 times less power in the pot than it is rated for.
Looking at the "datasheet" (if you can call it that) for the slid pot, it shows three legs coming out of the bottom of the slide. You're right about using the ohm meter. Move the slide to the middle, touch one probe to the single terminal on the one end, and to one of the terminals at the other end. You will read about 50k on one, and 25k on the other. The two that you read 50k on are the "outer" terminals, and the remaining terminal is the "center" terminal.
It also mentions a center detent. That may or may not be an issue, and if it is an issue, may or may not be easy to disable.
I'm just gonna order 2 of the switch, slide and round POT, just to have something to play around with.
I've already altered the everlast foot pedal so it ain't so high off the ground.

Ugh, I was just looking at the slide pot and it has an led in the tip of the slider.
It is probably going to have more than three terminals.
If I can't use it as a foot pedal, I can always use it as an interior light for my van.![]()

Well, I just scoped the pot again. This time I turned the amp control knob on the panel while looking at the voltage and I see that the voltage across the pot varies between about 0v and 4v, rather than staying at some constant value.
Anyway, the answer to the question remains the same; .2 watts is plenty.
