Thread: Bummer

  1. Default Bummer

I've had my 225LX for about 2 weeks now but been unable to weld due to storm damage to my little shop space. Today I managed to get enough done to fire the welder for the first time. While setting the machine up I found one little problem. The connector on the work clamp cable is to small for the machine. Talk about a big let down. I guess a call is in order to Everlast on Monday.

    Bummer is right

How is the the connector on the SMAW electrode holder? You could take a short length of 10ga solid copper wire, clamp it to your work piece, and then use the SMAW holder to clamp to the copper wire.... or otherwise use the SMAW holder dinse connector and copper cable until you can get the work clamp assembly replaced.

You may be on to something there. I just never noticed that the work clamp cable had a small dinse connector on it. I wonder what it goes to?

I would expect that it is used with the smaller plasma cutters since they push well less than 100 amps. 3/8" Dinse connector work clamps are listed on the replacement parts page on the main Everlast site (not the forum).

i had to same problem when i got my welder a while back, i just went to the local welding shop showed them what the problem was ans they fixed me up for less than 10$. i also upgraded the stinger that came with my pa160 because the plastic around it was melting

It just occurred to me; you can take the SMAW electrode holder apart and there will be a large hex shaped chunk of brass on the end of the cable that you can clamp to your work piece. Simple.... until you get the real work clamp problem resolved.

I use the stinger to add length to my work clamp sometimes or a second work clamp clipped inline.

Parkour's idea will get you running until we get you another one.

The smaller one is to a plasma cutter, looks like the wrong clamp was put in the box. Did you email sales@everlastwelders.com or status@everlastwelders.com or call in Oleg will have someone send you a clamp out.

You will like the 225LX, just use the stinger for now so you can have some fun.

Or Monday head for the LWS and get a dinse connector for it. Take the torch and clamp and they will set you up like Yotarover mentioned.

I have not made any sort of contact with anybody at Everlast yet. Being the weekend and all. On Monday I will get this sorted out. Most likely I'll just buy a dinse connector, some cable and a clamp. I would like to buy a plasma cutter in the future so having an extra work clamp for it won't hurt.

Yea, you can then use the extra clamp and an extension clipping them together too. Had to do that on occasion. Sorry about the screw up.

Just a little update. Today, off came the SMAW electrode holder and was replaced with the work clamp. This worked out well. Various things were welded on to test out all machine functions. The only issue that came up was the display is INOP. Will definitely be calling on Tuesday to get that taken care off. All in all I like this little welder. Much more convenient to use than my friends Cyber-Tig 300.

    RV8,
What was the issue with the display? Would it not work at all? Give symptoms here if you can.

At no time did I ever see the display light up, regardless of machine settings. I even watched the display as my friend welded, nothing.

Well, it turned out that I had two disconnected wires. With help from Ray at Everlast we determined where they go. I have a Mouser catalog here so I need to dig in it to find the right connector and pins. It's been on kinda a low priority due to the summer heat. It's actually hotter in my shop than it is outside.
