Good sized BBQ upgrade

The old grill needed a little TLC. Not the usual, but a make it look like new and add a flip out tray for more cooking space. There was some welding and plasma cutting as I hate to drill large wholes, but there was some painting and bolting on the front deck, added the flip out tray, new stool, etc.

Here is the rusting old thing and new deck. Next thread will show the new flip out shelf and paint job.

Now the flip out shelf, new paint and little hooks on the end of the shelf to hang cooking tools.

This thing makes some great food. It made good food before the changes too.

We added a cooler rack to the front later on that new decking. The kids in the neighborhood and next street over really like it. We have BBQ's every weekend in the front yard for over a month. Then I stopped, the kids can eat and I have 3 sons as it is to feed.

Here's mine. I built it a few years ago. No tanks, no conversions, everything was built from scratch. It works well today...Except the paint is all gone.

I designed it to grill or smoke. It has 18 cuft of grilling, smoking surface with the upper rack. Although I never made one, I designed it to take a rotisserie, if I ever wanted to.

The unit moves easily around in the yard when the wheels are inflated...Chinese wheels go flat if you look at them. It is perfectly balanced when you lift it up to roll it. My main regret is that it wasn't put on a trailer...I've had many requests to borrow it.

What is the tank from? Or you cut and weld that up too?

I like the size though, I only used 1/2 the grill most of the time since it is so big, unless smoking. It is great for parties though.

And those Chinese tires (HF) do have issues. I have a couple things with them on it. You'll need a portable air tank to bring it back to the house.

I had the "tank" rolled at a machine shop. They also stamped the ends for the flange. I set the dimensions, they just did what I didn't have the equipment to do.


I welded everything up.

Have you ever thought of publishing some grill plans? Or even kits...

I am working on another now. I have drawn up the basic design on most of them. But each was built for a special purpose, and not with general production in mind. Here's another I completed last year in April.
