Thread: PP205 Display Problems

  1. Default PP205 Display Problems

I was using my PP205 last night on AC for the first time and everything seemed to be working well. After about 20 minutes (3min welding) I took a break and came back to find the display was out. I lightly tapped it and it immediately came back on. Throughout the rest of the night (4 hours) it happened about 4 more times. I left a message with tech support and would like to get it resolved sooner than later as I am still in the first 30 days.

Has anyone else had the display go out and a simple tap would bring it back?

Thats a standard problem with any electronics there most likely a loose connection that is in the display circuit. It could be a loose screw connection.
Remember in the “Flight of the Intruder” the guy had to kick his weapons computer so they could release the bombs.

I think we talked already. If not call again.

    Don’t kick the welder, LOL.

The display contains the only socketed IC chip in the machine. So that’s the likely culprit.

I worked for a computer company once as a tech, one of the first steps for one model (right in the service manual) was to evaluate the computer 6 to 12 inches off the work bench and forcibly and rapidly return it to the workbench surface keeping it as flat as possible.

In other words slam it down on the workbench. (it rarely worked).

Amazingly enough Ray, I have "repaired" a lot of out of warranty equipment that way. (I rescued most of it on its way to the dumpster so nothing to loose).

Ray we did talk earlier this morning. I will remove the cover and make sure the display socket connection is good.

Ray said that I probably had a loose socket connection to the display and I did. There were four socket connections to the display and one was loose. I pushed it in (coould hear a click) to secure it and as of today 6/14/11 my display is working fine. Thanks again Ray for your help.

the proper procedure is to put to it back in the shipping crate before dropping.
