Hello my fellow welders, after spending 20 yrs. in the Navy as a welder, I said to myselfI don't want to ever pick up another stinger, tig torch, or mig gun lol. Now I find myself being drawn back into welding as a hobby. After some trial and error, trying to match up compatibilities with my generator, I have finally reached got everything going good now that I have found ease of use, and power of everlast welders. My first project is to build a wood stove for my dad, which is a slow process due to the high cost of plate steel , its coming together slowly but surely. As far as equipment I am pretty much at the stage of just buying consumables. In closing, thank you everlast for providing what I think are great products, to my fellow welders "KEEP BURINING"

Welcome to the forums, Brill757! A lot of good folks here, all willing to trade info. Are you going to submit your project in the "Stack the Deck" contest? I'd be curious to know how you're going to build the stove, cut the plate steel, etc.

And what town are you in? I'm in NoVA- we may be neighbors.

I am alot further east from NoVa though I've visited their a few times and I've lived in Va. Beach and Norfolk. The stove will only be used outdoors, so I'm building it out of 3/16" A-36 plate and 4" and 6" sch. 40 pipe for the vent and stack. I won’t have it ready for the Everlast contest as I can only work on it on the weekends. I'm not sure of other fabricators/welders, but I've found it cheaper, due to less lbs./square in, to order my metal from speedy metals, because they can only ship via UPS, for "online orders", smaller sections of plate, which the largest section is 12"X24", so there’s more joints to weld than cutting.

I've seen the Speedy Metals site- aside from online ordering it has a TON of information about the metals they sell. Apologies in advance if you've already done this homework: do you have a steel retailer in your area? There's a place around here that will cut to order. I built a swingset for the kids and needed some triangle shaped plate to use as gussets for one of the overhead members. They took measurements (and my credit card number of course) over the phone and it was ready quickly, and they're a good source of odds and ends ("drops" from other cuts) that they'll give away for free or cheap. You might save the UPS charges, at least.

And I count 7 weekends 'til the end of the contest, plenty of time! Good luck with the stove.

I've checked a couple of local metal distributors but for the for a sheet of 6'X12 they want over
$500.00, that's way out of my budget. I may look into their scrap pieces. Well see about completing
my project for the contest. Thanks for the info.

Seem I am close to the both of you. I am in King George County, VA. About 18 miles east of Fredericksburg.
