Default Project 2, from Tritium, Tractor Seat Stool

This is my second project, a stool made from an old metal tractor seat and post and a tandem plow disk.

    Attachment 2410Attachment 2411Attachment 2412

Step 1 was to cut a hole in the disk for the seat post with my Everlast PU 205P Multi-Process set up as a plasma cutter.

Step 2 was to cut 2 pieces of 3/4" by 2" steel the width of the seat post to reinforce the junction of the post to the disk.

The plasma cutter handled both the thin disk and the thick steel very nicely.

Step 3 was to MIG weld the reinforcements to the seat post leaving a stub below to pass through the square hole in the disk.

Step 4 was to tack weld the seat post and reinforcements to the disk and check the alignment.

Step 5 was to complete the welding to the disk with my MIG (.30 flux core wire used)

Step 6 was to heat the stool post with a torch and bend it to center the seat over the center hole of the disk (this also leveled the seat to the perfect height and shifted the center of gravity to the sweet spot)

Step 7 is in process and involves painting with Green Rustolium paint.

A finished pic will follow after the paint job is done.

Materials used: 1 old tractor seat and post, 1 old tandem plow disk, 2 pieces of 3/4" thick steel 2" by 3", Green Rustoleum Paint.

Estimated time for completion including painting and drying. 24 hours.

Thanks for the link I had looked on Ebay back a few months ago for one but all the had was high priced one from old tractors.
They were priced for age not function. We just got a tractor supply here in town I will check it out.
