A good question Sean and one I have wondered about myself given the similarities between the two companies, websites, contest, customer service, their origins and what would seem to be some common failure modes between machines of each company indicating at least a convergence of parts supplier in China if not an indication of a common manufacturing facility for both brands. These are only observations since I know little to nothing about each company.

I think I have a buyer for my Millermatic 211, and would like an Imig 200, but would really like the IMig205P. I'm just curious what the differences are, other than price.

I'd recommend the I MIG 205 over the 205P unless you are using it for spool gun welding aluminum only since it does not have the capacity to get into spray mode for the pulse to be effective with steel. The new 205P should be up on our site now so you can compare.
I don't know what all the specs are of the "arc mates". All I know we come out with something, they copy it and have told me they would continue to do so (from the horses mouth so to speak). I don't go over there anymore even to check because it makes me mad. Anyone can back and research how they operate and how long our products have been out and the effort we put out. We work hard to put out new stuff, they come up with their copy. Don't know and don't care about them at this point. We have our eyes set on the bigger fish. Anyone ever check the number viewing our forum over on WW vs Theirs at the same time on average? Enough said about that. I will say that I do know they had Chiry copy the I MIGS a while back and they were pretty poor. They even posted a video of them on WW and could hear it was running awful. We had phone calls with funny numbers coming up on ID and chinese accents wanting to "know" what this function did and that function did for about 2 years.

For the record, we came out with the Proto-PowerTig line in October 08 and had it fully phased in by March 09. And theirs "new igbt infineon line"? Introduced a few at Atlanta this year and then didn't have much in stock until February or March OF THIS YEAR!!!...

Another point to prove my point....LOOK at their control arrangement. Any one looking at theirs versus ours can TELL someone over there doesn't know what they are doing...Looks like they grabbed a handful of controls and threw them at the panel....I believe they claim to have an R and D department...hmmm. Any one that studies design and evolution of it can definitely point the finger at someone "copying" something without understanding what it does or its function. No doubt they will read this now and copy our arrangement too. I can provide ALL the original panel designs I have made for the welders when we first get the concept of the machine. Can they?

Which company would you rather buy from? The one that comes up with the stuff and KNOWS WHY they did something or the one that copys the stuff without knowing why something is there. No doubt they are using some of our same parts suppliers, its obvious...But the way things are put together makes the difference.

I did an awful lot of research on both companies before buying my PP50. If you look back on WW, there is a long history between Longevity and Everlast. From reading these old WW posts, it seems that Oleg, from Everlast, and Simon, from Longevity, are brothers-in-law.

That being said, in the research I did, Everlast products seemed to have better reliability and Oleg seems to stand behind his products much better than Simon. My 2 cents...

Thanks Mark, That clears up a lot of what I have suspected about some "family ties" between the two. It just had the flavor of soap if you know what I mean.

The last line of my signature indicates the preference that my research into each company indicated and Everlast machine's Look and Layout is VASTLY Superior.

We have dealt with this issue before...and I guess we will keep dealing with it as each new wave of customers come through. Its not anything we hide. IF you go back and do the serious research, you can see the "evolution" and formation of their company as well as ours. But I keep going back to their MO. We never had a product that we offered they didn't copy...and then try to rewrite history about it saying it is the "only" one out there etc. And they have even copied the manuals I wrote verbatim and then denied it, even with the evidence, and further when it was revealed, blamed a customer that was said to have written them.

Also watch our new units coming out...if they don't have them, they will, give it 3-6 months. Can you tell its a little sore still? The latest thing? Some of our subscribers (as far as I can tell most of them probably) to our youtube videos were recently invited to become Longevity's.

I guess the sincerest form of flattery is imitation.

Wow.... I had no clue about the history between the two companies. I would not have brought it up. I found it odd competitors would have machines that look similar. Even with Lincoln, Miller, and Thermal Arc their are appearance differences, as much as you can have for a welding machine. When I searched youtube for Everlast Videos I saw that Longevity had used Everlast in their tags so they would show up. When I was in sales I always tried to distinguish myself/company from my competitors. I found the similarities odd, and it made me wonder if the machines used the same parts. If I had done the research I would have learned the history of the two companies and never brought it up. I was invited to become a subscriber to Longevity's youtube channel. I wondered how they got my email address.

We don't mind the question. Believe me, we have had significant internal discussion about this...with agreeement and disagreement. The fact remains, that there are some issues we can't do any thing about. We CAN continually improve our product, and work on offering better quality, service etc. Just like in a race setting our focus on the competition ahead of us gives us focus. If we LOOK at what competition is straggling and gasping behind us constantly, and keep glancing back, we will eventually fall further behind and be overtaken by the guys behind us. Of course the guys that get lapped think that if they cross the finish line next to the leader or slightly behind, they finished well to hear them tell it.

One big difference between the two companies is that everlast has someone answering the phone, at least they always have when I have called.

Before I became aware of Everlast I tried to buy an Ebay Longevity Welder. Phoned several times, left messages and emails but got no response for several days.
When I got frustrated I tried calling Everlast who also had welders on Ebay. Maybe I was lucky ,but I got right thru to Alex and he had the answers and the welder I was looking for at the time.
I've had reason to call a few times since and have always managed to to talk to someone rather than just listening to a recording.

It is getting increasingly hard to find companies that have real people with product knowledge available by phone.

I know this is an older thread but.

I was somewhat surprised myself when I called last week just to verify how to use the pedal with my tig welder ( bought the welder coming on three years ago now and only just plugged the pedal in last week) I got an person and he verified that is was doing what it was supposed to.

I read allot about them myself before purchasing, after my brother sent me a craigslist add with one of the Everlast multiprocess welder in it. My initial response was that those are probably junk. I read allot and actually ended up buying the 200DX and have not had any problems with it at all.

Don't want to keep dredging stuff up but I have been to the WW a few times and it doesn't even have to be about these great machines they are really just nasty people over there.

I am so happy I am most likely going to buy the 140 mig from the Canada branch this firday.

Ive always used miller mig and looked at the 211 before and the price aint too bad but the specs shund me away. Its duty cycle is a disapointment and caused me to keep looking. I think the i mig 205 would be pretty good. Its bout like the 212 miler has which is like the old 210s which are good.

    Johnson,

I was actually going to buy a lincoln 180 off ebay myself, if you look you can get them new in box for around $550 shipped. I had previously discounted getting an Everlast mig welder due to their price being higher, but when I looked again and paid attention the duty cycles show that they are much more powerful machines.

I just ordered an Everlast 140 mig from the Canada branch and at 135Amp @35% duty cycle it is better than the lincoln and half the weight. The lincoln 180 is rated at 130A@30% so up to 140 amps the Everlast is more powerful also the lincoln and miller only have a 10% duty cycle at their big number. Lincoln does not even state what it is but it is most likely 180A@10% or less and the Miller has a graph that shows it is 211A@10-15% duty cycle. Since you already have a tig/stick unit you may not need the power about 140 amps. My mig arrives Wednesday.

One more point the lincoln and most likely miller migs use aluminium wound transformers, which is to keep the weight down. It is also not a problem as long as you don't overheat but it also keeps the duty cycle lower. As I am sure you have read all the everlast machines are currently Inverters and hopefully they stay that way. They allow you to get higher power density and control, more power out for the same weight.

    Hope this helps

I must first apologize. I purchased a Longevity I50 plasma cutter. I was in the market for a AC/DC Tig and those guys would never answer my emails nor could I get them on the phone about pricing. I'm very good friends with Sean Murphy the OP and he convinced me to give Everlast a call. Oleg was supper to deal with.....I went to a friend who has a fab shop and is unrestricted certified mig, tig and stick welder. His shop is full of Miller's. I unpack aged my new everlast 200DX at his shop and he help me dial in the settings. I think Oleg will be receiving a call from my friend very soon to add a new Everlast tig to his stable.

If I could only sale this Longevity I50 plasma I would replace it with a everlast quickly.
