Thread: ongoing project

  1. Default ongoing project

Just wanted to post a couple of pictures of the only project I have had these last 6 years. I'm still not finished but I'm far enough along to share. It's real exciting to be at this stage. Any way, here she is after paint. Just took off all the masking paper today.

The tail end is black so it's a little hard to see. Some parts still need to be installed and wheel covers need to be fit up.

edit to add: I posted this in the no welder required section but I actually did a little welding. I drilled two holes in a steel bracket in the wrong spot. A little tig weld to close it up and re-drill was needed.

Gee, I guess none like airplanes around here. Me, I like them a lot (they pay the bills and buy Everlast welders)

nice. I've had 5 planes the past 6 yrs or so but don't have anything right now. Once I'm outta AETC plannin on a kitfox or avid. I'm more into the where can I land kind of thing STOL than getting places. However, my little brother is building a harmon rocket (based on the RV4) and they seem like great little planes. What engine are ya running and what kind of panel ya putting in? I'm hoping for a syn vis display for the sheer laziness of IFR and not having to worry about approach plates. Post up more pics of the interior and engine when ya get a chance!

Yes, it's a kit plane. It's kinda scary when you first start. A big pile of aluminum pieces and many little bags full of tiny hardware. If you stick to it and follow directions eventually you get end up with a flying airplane.

I'll post more pictures when she is all put back together and clean. My engine is a 180 HP Lycoming and the panel is a mix of old school and new school.

What airport is your RV8 Based at? The background looks familiar.

After thirty years of flying corporate and charter operations, and a few thousand airports along the way, I'm sure I've been there.

The plane looks great. The only planes I get to play with are RC planes. I'm that your RV8 and the other projects you mentioned keep you off the streets and out of trouble.

    Best Regards

No time to get in trouble, that's for sure. You practically marry the thing.

The airport is 52F. Northwest Regional Airport, Roanoke TX. 2 miles from the Texas Motor Speedway for you NASCAR fans.

Those things also have been known to cause marriages to become unhinged.

Haven't been there, but I have been to Denton TX. In fact I was involved in establishing a corporate aviation department for a general contractor and basing it there in Denton. We were supposed to get a large government contract until "Big Sis" there in homeland security put the kabash on it. It would have helped the good guys put the really bad guys away.

We must all remember that our borders are safer now than they ever have been!

    Have fun with it!
