Brake project

This is a brake I made for my Dad who is helping me post. Some of the welds are not pretty I did not know the arc force applied in MIG on the IMIG-200. now I do. Did not fix them since penatration is good. Idea taken from Scooter here on the forum.

16" bend max 19.5" base 2.5"x2.5"x1/4" die all scrap metal. Getting metal for the press today and a free 20 ton bottle jack from the guy. I am 15, never been to a welding school yet but helped my Dad for 2 years. I will post more projects soon.

Good job everybody has to start somewhere, Keep working with your Dad you can go to school if you feel you really want to get into welding.
I can't tell you how many tools/projects I have made over the years. Some fill a need and other are just for the joy of having it. Look around here and other sites (youtube) there are a never ending supply of things to make. People love to share what they have make. Being able to do things for yourself is a handy thing to have. Sometimes a helping hand is on the end of your arm.

Chadrock, the brake looks good. You will find many uses for it. Are you going to post a thread on the press build? We like pictures. Welding is good to know and you are starting out with the help of your father which is better yet. Keep up the good work.

Man! I cannot explain how refreshing it is to see a young man like yourself doing something like this. Good work. I second what jester said. You are getting started at the right time, too. Try to find something that interests you (welding is super addictive) and discipline yourself to stick with it. Less video games, less reality tv. Although the video games I suppose have their value too, if you want to be an air traffic controller or something... Anyways keep up the good work. Any questions, that's what we're here for.

Looks quite nice. I've been planning on building a Gingery Brake myself but have not got around to it.

Thank you all for the good words. We finished the press this weekend and I will post pictures. No paint on it yet. Bent 1/4 no problem and 1/2 x 1 1/2" no problem.

Here is a couple bends 1/4" for a bracket. Also made the handles for the press with the press and brake. I posted pictures of the press in another place here after handles and paint.

i have to ask my dad. It is a copy of the one Scooter on the forum made but my Dad got all the metal and made the blade and I did the cutting and the welding. I did make a bunch of c channel with it from plate. Cut with the Power Plasma 60 and bent on the press and brake. He said 60 degree

Yeah I was wondering about the angle iron part. How thick of angle iron did u go with

2 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/4" from the side stacked like ^v^ but all flat and press together.

Okay thanks I will be making one of these brakes for when i make and air filter box for my car. I made a brake before but not with a press so i think this idea will work better

There is another brake were I got the idea well my Dad did. Look for recent posts by Scooter. His has a hand wench and his pictures are easy to see more detail.
