Default Anyone know of a decent torch with.....

a button on it that will work with the 250ex?. I've gotten pretty good at controlling the heat using 4t and pulsing the torch into and out of the pre amp and post amp , but I'm looking for a torch that's a bit less cumbersome and more ergonomic.

I would love a CK200 and may scab on a button but don't want to if I don't have to. I don't have to have a CK but anything a little less bulky would be nice. If it comes down to it I'll do the conversion above and add a button. just thought there may be someone out there that knows of a nice torch with a button on it. not looking for amp control just a button so I can fire the thing off and tap-a-tap-tap as I go. although I wouldn't be opposed to amp control either as long as it was usable for he way I hold the torch.

    thanks

If you are in good with the people at your local harbor freight they have a nice looking binzel tig torch that comes with one of their higher end welders. It's the inverter model and the torch does not get packaged with the welder, it is packed in it's own box and supposed to be sold with the welder. It is an air cooled torch though. If you are in good with them you might see if they can order you one seperately or sell one off the shelf. You can see the torch in this link. http://www.harborfreight.com/tig-mma...out-98233.html Otherwise they can get pretty pricey but they are out there. you might also consider reworking your existing torch. new cables and hoses to make it lighter and cut down the handle or replace it. I made my own. there is a thread on it here. http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...ht=wrenchtamer

I used a torch switch like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/TORCH-SWITCH-TIG...#ht_6053wt_905

Zip tie it (with plastic, non-conductive zip ties) onto the handle of your aftermarket torch handle, and you can position it on the handle right where it's most useful for you. Wire it (with flexible/multi-stranded 20 gauge wire) along your TIG torch leads, to an appropriate connector that will fit your machine. It's really a useful switch shape - easy to actuate with a wide variety of grips on the handle.

Have you looked at the WP20? I use the 18 and 20, depending on the work. I think the 17 is a flex head. You can call Ca and check the stock on them, but I like the size and weight of the WP20 we sell.

I have the wp20 from everlast and it isn't a bad torch, but much cheaper quality than a weldcraft or the like. you must be using a water cooler with it though as the power cables will heat up even at low amperages without water. I just use mine for when i absolutely need a small torch. Otherwise I've grown fond of the one that came with the welder

Woot, you're my hero. Overlooked this somehow the first time around. Just ordered 3 of them from ebay and will be picking up a couple of CK torches. One (air cooled for light duty ) Not sure on the model and a 200 rigid neck for sustained work.

    Thanks a ton jakeru

why is this not up on the site? looks like a nice torch but I think I'll go with the CK only cause it's less of a hassle and easier to find. I'll put my own switch on it.

You would sell more of those torches if you actually had it up on the site under the Tig Torches link Just my .02

You are talking to tech support here, not the web guys. It has been mentioned many times in the past.

Yep I know your tech support. That's why there is a forum related section only up there somewhere under Everlast community or something like that. But I think the webmaster is doing double duty as a warehouse worker too or something leaving him too tired to update the site when it needs itROFL.

You're very welcome, Don. FYI, my local welding supply has the best prices (better than any internet offers) on CK torches. Just FYI. Unfortunately, getting a price quote on any CK product that they don't have in stock (and need to special order) is like pulling teeth.

PS - check out this guys' stuff, "RescueWelding" going out of business welding supplier has some good deals at the moment. I don't know if he still has the CK "superflex" 25' power and water cables in stock, but if he does, it's probably at a great price. You'd just need to add the torch head (FYI, non-CK brand, WP20 torches are available very cheap on Ebay, I'd recommend the flex head over rigid head), plus an argon hose and a cable cover

Ok I got my WP20 and my watercooler is almost done ( just need to make some extension hoses for the water cooler and put some quick connects on them. I have one question Some Mfg's Mention the water through the DINSE as being the return But I am assuming because that because the water hose going into the DNSE connector is reinforced that it is the feed and the smaller more rigid tube the return. Am I wrong ?

    Cheers

Oh PS I gave up on the last contest as I had to return to the hosp and didn't feel like typing out every post on my phone, and the only projects I could post from the hospital ended up in the bottom of a bed pan ~snicker

You are correct. The return water from the torch runs through your dinse power connector and then into your tank. I also found that several outlets sell these dinse connectors from too expensive down to reasonable. I'm not a big fan of any establishment that requires you to buy 10 items only if you need just one. Some of these outfits try to make you feel that it's a priveledge to do business with them.

    Remember it's a 1/2 inch dinse connector.

    Grizzly,

Got any recommendations for online outlets? Currently I deal with weldfabulous for my tungstens and protective gear ( gloves caps and sleeves ) and arczone for anything weldfabulous doesn't have.

I took a look at the Weldfabluous site and it looks like the prices are pretty good. I have dealt with Arczone and they are pretty good but expensive. There is another outfit in Chicago that offers free shipping for orders over 50 bucks. My purchase from them was 52 bucks and they still tacked on a shipping charge.

I might be old fashioned but I prefer to deal with someone face to face if it all possible. In this online world, I prefer to deal with someone who has a hard physical address that I can visit even though they might be in "tim buck two". These outlets might have an 800 number but the fax number isn't usually.

Since I have all the connectors, all I need are gas and rod with an occaisional purchase of some other item. I prefer to deal with airgas. We have Praxair is this area and Matheson also. Matheson tells you that they are giving you a deal on gas when the two others charge 10 bucks less for the same tank of gas. There are two Airgas outlets in this area and they are very polite and professional.

Oh by the way, I use 1/4" brass air compressor fittings for my water hookups. The water pressure is about 50 pounds, and they don't leak. There are several pictures here on cooler hookups and all thier fittings are nice and expensive also.

    Hope This Helps!

I just discovered that Arczone is selling a Q5W dinse connector for about fifty bucks. The price is about the lowest that you will find for one. I also noticed that they like to bundle conectors and fittings into kits and charge way too much for them.

Yea I been watching Ebay found the connector I needed to go water and gas through the Dinse an Picked up 2 Water quick connects. This was all arczone's ebay stuff. will work out fine. I wand to make changing torches as easy as possible. These parts fit the bill. My home Brew water cooler is done so no more hot hands and broken cups. I have been running the wp 18 torch that came with my 250 ex pretty hot on some thick stuff with no cooling other than pumping up the argon to about 30 cfh ( that emptied my 250 fast too ). Running 170 amps cont the torch is getting really hot.
