So I had a spare fender from my build project that I decided I would rather replace and I could use this one to replace a different rusty dented fender on another car. The current fender is also peeling clear coat that I assume was caused by rock chips as this is the only place that has peeling clear. Anyways the early years of this model had the antenna on the fender where the later had it on the roof. This fender is going on a later year car so it does not need an antenna on the fender.
I started by taking the paint away from the edge of the hole.
Then I bent a piece of metal to fill it with a hammer and dolly and then welded it in.
Anytime I weld in a patch or there is a chance of pin holes, I fiberglass over it before putting any putty. This is before I sanded it out.
Next is with a glazzing putty over the fiberglass. Also notice the black circular mark under this spot has been covered.
The black marks is where dents are that I could feel and I plan to fill them before priming and painting this. My camera sucks at taking pics of body work... There are no hard edges on in that last pic. I am also thinking that this fender may have been repainted in the past sometime??..
Materials was a mig welder, hammer and dolly set, 4 1/2 grinder, sanding blocks, 36/80/220 grit paper, Evercoat glazzing putty, Evercoat short strand fiberglass (Everglass).
More to come later.
