Thread: Power Arc 140 first tig welds

Default Power Arc 140 first tig welds

First I am not much of a tig welder so I would not judge the machine by my lack of ability. This is the first time I have ever used a scratch start tig. This is a header that my friend Reed needed welding. This is a temporary fix until his new headers arrive. It seems about the time I get better at tig welding it's a month before I use it again. The Power Arc 140st is a very handy machine. I was very impressed welding at 25-30 amps, and I liked using the scratch start better than I thought I would.

This is the first hole I have filled with a tig, I got the hang of it after I filled in this one. A little too much build up.

Sean, I thought that the 140ST was Lift Arc rather than scratch start. Lift Arc initiates the arc after sensing contact made between the tungsten and workpiece has been broken. It only uses a sensing voltage rather than the full voltage, full current of scratch start.
