Thread: New contest suggestions?

    Default New contest suggestions?

New contest for end of August coming soon. The prize is expected to be a 250EXT. Any suggestions concerning contest rules, and objectives? We're giving an opportunity for our customers to help design the contest. Keep in mind that winner selection needs to be fairly easy and some way of verifying the winner.

How about a contest to see which member can sign up the greatest number of new members to the site?

The prize could be a discount of some sort to the group of new members signed up or ...?

Thinking of myself here, I've just won a welder so shouldn't be in the running to win anything personally, but could perhaps enter a contest to win a discount for some new members.

If the prize is a discount on a new welder then it is likely that the members signed up would have an interest in welding, so it would be pointless to sign up my big Dog Ron for example. On the other hand he has shown some aptitude for metal work, especially when removing catfood from stolen tins.

How about lets see who can lean out their turbo bike on the dyno today due to an issue with the wastegate signal line causing extreme overboost and 14:1 air fuel ratio's on a non intercooled motor very high boost :-)

It did make 481 rwhp though....sounds a little funny now though kinds da da da putt da da da putt....

If there are projects involved like the last one, they should have to be welding related.

To easy to cheat/manipulate that one. Whatever the contest may be, it should be for welders and promote Everlast welders. All project pictures submitted to a contest should contain a 3/4 shot of an Everlast product so that it could be used in future promotions, with permission to do so as a condition of entry.

I am so tired of looking at posts three minutes apart on the same thread. Post counts was a good idea but quality of posts can suffer. How about a writing essay?

"Why I like, love or want an Everlast (insert product)"

    Create some categories
Best short write up (max ___ characters)
Funniest write up (max ___ characters)
Best long write up (max ___ characters)
Most heart felt write up (max ____ characters)
Most deserving plea for free equipment write up (max ___ characters)
    and maybe for fun
    Worst write up or
    Worst plea for free stuff.
May need some basic rules on content.

There could be more or less categories, but that should cover most of us.

The Everlast team could pick the top three from each category. Then set up a special post that allows members to vote over one week for their favorite, without being able to vote more than ounce and maybe the results hidden until after the voting is over. The piece with the most votes wins first prize (ties determined by ____), runner-up prizes for the remaining top three from each category. Either all the same or larger prizes for next highest votes, etc. like maybe consumables, Everlast bucks or welding trucks. I'm sure you guys would be able to figure out how you would want to set up some runner up prizes. The just for fun categories (if used) another special member voting post.

This should hopefully create enough categories that any member could have a chance at entering and winning. With all the prizes maybe run this for two or three months. To keep the interest up, possibly some monthly random draws for new entries that month for consumables or Everlast bucks. One two a month, whatever.

Would be a great way to tap into some free advertising ideas as your reward for the great contests. The shorts may produce some amazing head lines for ads. The longer pieces could create some excellent testimonials.

    Just a thought.

I live in the boonies so my friends are here already on this forum, I don't write essays (I detest those days in school so long ago). I don't ride a motorcycle. I like the previous contest just fine.

It absolutely has to be something like in the past where it is easy to "count" rather than judge an entry. Judged entries are just not equitable for such contest. Judgments vary according to the personality, experience and personal preferences of the judge(s). I may not have the talent or creativity of another who has been at this for years so the contest would not be fair to all.

gawd, I just had a frightening thought about the signup idea.

The more contests the more counting it seems. The counting is why it takes days to have a winner. I though we where pretty fast this last one.

On the last point you made, we went that way on the last two contests so judges did not bias things. Post count and project count for extra entries drawn from a hat, can't beat that. And the boss (Oleg) made a second prize winner and threw out 50% off to the others that qualified.

I bet Mark's eyes are still spinning from counting the last one.

So if we do best weld, we loose. Best projects, we loose. We figured lots of action would be the answer. Wrong again I guess.

    So you guys tell us.

I liked the last one, but less or no post counting. It was fun to see projects show up and progress. The counting part was a royal pain. But we did not judge on projects at all.

Maybe each person in the next contest starts a gallery, posts they're in the contest and we check their gallery. We work from inside there. But then you have the judges back again.

OR maybe we have the contest, Everlast does the counts and posts a poll of the people that qualified. Then everyone can vote on their favorite during a time period? Nah, then everyone would have 1 vote

    Keep the ideas coming...

Make no mistake about it. I was VERY pleased at the outcome of the last contest. I like being a looser when it has a 1 time 50% non-expiring discount on ANY product. SWEET!

I am unclear about this out of the box thinking, The welder has to be out of the box to use it. Or is it something like using my welder to roast hot dogs? Enlighten me!
