    I'm curious, too.

They look neat without being ridiculous.

They should be ready to ship in the next few days. We had to wait in line for them to be manufactured and make a few changes that improve the functionality of the helmet, then test them, and finally manufacture them.

I ordered the defender helmet earlier this month when I got my PM205, Oleg said you guys were still waiting for shipment. Who should I talk to about getting that shipped once you guys get stock on hand? Thanks.

Contact Oleg. They should be on the way soon.

Will they be posted on the store web page soon? Kinda waiting for prices.

Mike you were right about the first set of electrodes goes fast. but you jump the "Novice" gap quickly.

Oleg will let Mark and I know and we'll post. They should be on the new site, but it did not make it up this weekend.

On the plasma, once you get the hang of it, they last a longer and longer and that torch can take a licking.

I am actually playing with a Super Cut 50 today, did not have any 220/30a plugs for 220, so I wired it up for 110/20A. All metal was less than 1/4". Was impressed, but nothing like have 220 volts connected.

As long as the traffic across the bridge is OK tomorrow, I'll go and pick up a plasma cutter and ask Oleg about the helmets and let y'all know.

Yeah I've got it wired up to 240V 50 amp breaker. Works great. Also, in a couple weeks I'm going to be building a skid steer bucket, a 72" and possibly a 96". I will be cutting very thick sheet stock 3/4" thick. I'm thinking about turning the pressure up to 70-75 psi to blow the slag free. Any suggestions?

More pressure doesn't always improve cut. Make sure you maintain about 3/32-1/8 inch standoff.

If we go much further with this thread we will have to move these posts to another section. But, pilot arc is not the same as the cutting arc. The pilot arc is much shorter and weaker than the cutting arc.

On the helmets, Oleg said they're still waiting. Same with the plasma cutter...'nother 2-3 weeks.

    Question

    Mark,

Have you tried on the fabricator helmet. I've been searching around and found that the most irritating thing, is that the Jackson's and others eventually loosen and slip.

I've got a Jackson Standard plain tint and cover shield model, not "AutoDarkning". I'm just sitting still and it slowly works it's way down creaking all the way down.

Just wondering about comfort and the distance from the pivot to the lower part of the neck guard.

    Thanx,
    I Love Plasma

    Yes,

I have a Fabricator that I use from the test batch.

The headgear is comfortable, though I suspect there are more advanced head gears out there, it works fine. I like the filter range and the clarity of the lens. It has a green tint and in our test school where I placed the helmets, these helmets are preferred over the others.

I have a couple of Jacksons as well and I know the what you mean. Jackson has a new aftermarket headgear to retrofit and upgrade all of their helmets. It is supposed to be the answer to this issue with Jackson. However, from what I can tell, Jackson still doesn't use it on their new helmets. I'd say the helmet is lighter weight than the Jacksons I have. And our helmets are made from ABS so it is quite durable. The cheaper "strong man" is polypropylene I think.

The delay has been in the boxes. It was decided that the regular factory boxes were not strong enough to survive shipping, so new boxes were sourced. The helmets have been produced, but we are waiting on the boxes to be finished and shipped together to keep expenses to a minimum as we have to maintain our pricing we have set.

Its a common mod particularly for welders outside to keep the backlighting out. But it is better done by gluing velcro on the top and sewing it onto an old leather welding jacket scrap.

How long does it take a shipping vessel from China?

  17. #37

    Default

Anywhere from 1.5 weeks to 4 or more weeks, depending upon conditions, and shipping schedules.

I pop rivited a leather cover. Might cut the chin off and add a leather skirt there, too. Hard to get into tight spaces.

Is it OK to use 'sun glasses' for the plasma cutter? I can't see what I'm doing with the shade turned down to 9.

A shade 5 cutting pair of glasses will probably be fine if they are rated for UV protection, but don't forget about the rest of your face and the ultraviolet rays.
