Thanks for the review. Even though they've been out for a long time, there isn't a whole lot of reviews on the everlast helmets, so I'm sure your review will come in very useful for those who are in the market for one. That's pretty cool you've had yours for a year; that should be enough to get to really know it. I'd like to see some reviews on the defender's auto shade adjust features.

Have you been satisfied with the viewing area, or do you find yourself wishing it was larger? Oh also, how does it handle low amp DC TIG?

My current helmet (a harbor freight special - actually OK in most regards however) bothers me when I lean over something looking back at it (somewhat upside down) or even just on top of something looking down, and find the helmet shifts upwards against my face a bit compared to normal position, and I then have to either live with welding without being able to see (which rarely leads to great results) or reposition it. But for all cases where the top of my head it pointing straight up, I am happy with it. The other thing is it won't reliably darked in low amp DC TIG welding. But turning the pulsing on is a workaround that always makes it work.

So I am kind of in the market for a new helmet, but probably one with a larger viewing window.

On the DC TIG. I would not be able to tell you, whereas I don't have a TIG welder :'( . Today I think I will see if it says darkened with the oxy/acetylene flame "tuned". I'll post the results here. I have a micro Oxy/Hydrogen torch 6400F* that I use for heavy soldering jobs or welding/brazing lead and copper. The helmet does stay dark most of the time for that.

Did you read the description of the video? It has valuable info on the helmet.

Okay viewing area. I have used a standard helmet for many years (the lens is like 4.25" x 5.5") plenty of room. Switching to the Everlast was not as bad as I might have previously thought. It was quite comfortable to wear. The viewing area is only like a .25" less shield than Hobart's $350 dollar auto-darkening. I have found the viewing to be quite adequate for everything. Unless you are welding at night,....you need your side vision to keep an eye out for cougars and bears In conclusion: I'm very happy with the viewing area.

Stability of the helmet. It has adjustable indexing for a stop so it cannot go to far down or to far back when you lift it. The distance between one's face and the glass is minimal; I'm thinking maybe 1" to 2", thus making the helmet less front heavy from the leverage and this also gives you a better field of view.

Features. A feature I would really like in the auto-darkening helmets is a shade "lock", to be able to freeze the screen in any shade. This would be handy in somethings.

Info Summary. If your helmet should switch back while your plasma cutting or welding at low amperage, it still will be a #4 shade and it still blocks 99.99% of UVA UVB and IR. You will get the spots in your eyes like night driving but it will not be damaging your eyes. Mark, correct me if any of this is wrong.

I did not realize how nice those helmets are into your review. I have a Miller Digital Elite and love it over any helmet I have ever tried before. I guess if I ever need to replace it I will consider an everlast again. I was looking at them when I got my Miller but the big thing won me over on the Miller was the design. To you everlast guys, are there future plans of designs on your helmets also?

Oh I like that idea!! Although, what I would like to do, Is go all out with my helmet. Go to a custom graphics store, and get my initials with some blue and white flames licking up the sides.

Since I plan to keep the helmet for long time, I wanted something that I liked. I looked at the Everlast at the same time as the Millers and one the bigger reasons I went with the Miller was the graphics on the helmet and the shape. I also could not find any reviews on the Everlast to see what they were like or what people thought about them.

I use the defender and fabricator helmets at the job and shop. I have never used our entry level helmet. All work very good. If you get to far away on TIGing or something between the sensors you might get an occasional flash, but that can happen on any helmet depending on the location of the sensors.

I have other helmets and used many brands (still have a Jackson) for year, you will like them.
