    Default Spool gun question

I mentioned it in my intro post, but I have something that I haven't found an answer to. May be a stupid question, but you never know till you ask...then you judge by the laughter

The spool guns, can they be attached to the multi-process units? (I posted here since I figure those units COULD drive them, it would more be on the spool end to determine).

Is it merely the connections, or are there other factors involved?

Appreciate it... I searched the site but didn't search the forum. I'll remember to do that going forward. It's a shame though, because while TIG may be perhaps the best method of welding, it's not always the best process of welding certain jobs. I guess I'll hang onto my MIG for those.

Part of what brought the question up was a series of Miller units I used in the Navy, it's been over a decade and my memory is foggy, but I would have sworn we had the main unit, and either a spool gun for aluminum or a hi-freq box for TIG, powered by the same machine. I suppose at the price point of those, it's an entirely different game.

Thinking about this and processes in general, I just walked back from my neighbor's house where he is setting up to weld a flange back onto an exhaust pipe with an arc welder because he doesn't want to wait till 6 for me to use the MIG (I do NOT loan tools).

Which units? If you are referring to Tig/plasma...Mig is a CV process, not CC. Won't work if you could
The MTS 200 is setup to run aluminum if needed provided you have the correct spool, through the main gun and is synergically controlled..but no spool gun
The MTS 400 is not set up for aluminum, only steel and Stainless.
The I MIGS WILL accept a spool gun and will weld stick.

Thanks Mark, it's been over a decade since I was in a weld shop full time, forgot about the CC/CV thing, and it didn't jump out to me when I was searching. I already have a MIG, I was hoping if I could tag a spool gun onto one of the TIG welders, I could sell off the MIG to help pay for part of it, and still have MIG capabilities when needed. Size is another factor, only so much you can fit into 24x27'...

    Thanks for the information!
