Hello, my name is Jeremy. Im currently a third year going to school in january for the ticket. I work at a railcar repair facility two minutes from home. I sometimes get alot of welding in during a day, and other times it could be a week, depending on the work load. I do quite enjoy the work, it can be dirty and loud as we use CAC (gouging) alot. Ive been looking around for a small tig lately and came across everlast. As the guy just previous to my intro, ( forget his name but right under this thread) i too am looking at getting into either the 250ex or the pp256. My friend is opening up a shop this weekend and he wants me to start fabing up parts for him. Im actually kinda excited about doin something different then the 9-5 thing. Still havent made my mind up, guess ill keep reading more posts . Anyways thanks for reading and hopefully i can lend another opinon and a little knowlege to the forum.

Welcome Jeremy,

More heads we have here the better. On your choice in units. I would lean to dedicated TIG and Plasma for a shop. No musical cables and hoses. The duty cycle is a lot better on the 250EX as well. And you do not have all yours tools in box. I find the separate units make me a little more productive as well.

Hi Jeremy, saw the post and was about to reply that Mike gave me some good advice in the thread you mentioned, but he beat me to it!

As per his advice, I'm now looking at likely the 225LX or 250EX (or EXT if the universe sees fit to have my name drawn

I do want a plasma too, but after reading Mike's advice and a few other posts, I'll be going the two-machine route myself.

Careful on the friend thing, I now have about a two month backlog of projects and still a month to go before I can afford to place an order Fortunately, I was a bit sarcastic there, as all the 'friend projects' are paying friends, not the freebie type.

Jerky what part of Alberta do you live in? I have a 250ex you would be able to take for a test drive if you live close enough.

Trip59 brought up a very good point. The 225LX is a great machine as well, same league as the 250EX (and one of my favorites). I was looking at the two mentioned in the OP.. The EXT is nice too if you like digital. Thanks for doing my job Trip , I slipped up on that one.

Also, call Duncan at everlastcanada.com and see how far you are from him. He will have all kinds of units you can try if Chuck is not close by.

We have a place, called WATCO in my town that does the same work. In fact a lot of my welder friends work out there. Its not the best pay, for a welder at 12.00/hour, but they do some nice work.
