Thread: Project 2 from I_Love_Plasma ~ Custom Mulch Bucket

  1. #1

Cool Project 2 from I_Love_Plasma ~ Custom Mulch Bucket

This is project 2. Well to be able to load mini pickups and crew cab trucks with those short and shorter boxes a 72" Deere bucket just doesn't cut the mustard! You end up with about 2/3 of your bucket in the truck, the other 1/3 in your beautiful driveway rock.

What's the solution!? A custom made bucket!
Your normal 72" bucket holds roughly 3/4 of a yard of mulch leveled in the bucket. This custom made mulch bucket is easier to crunch numbers, whereas you just barely heap the load and it's one cubic yard.

We cut out the quick attach plate. And welded this bucket up. We had the two sides and bottom sheared at our local steel shop. All the metal is standard A-36 rolled.

    Here's the lock bracket

    Height of quick attach plate

    Width of quick attach plate

    Dimensions of bucket picture 1

    Dimensions of bucket picture 2

Picture of "cutter bar", "wear bar", or "cutting edge". We plasma cut the bevel on the bar. (SuperCut 50, never hit the duty cycle. Was running full 50 amps for about 15 minutes, the temperature was around 55-60 degrees inside so it was running cold).

    Extra picture

Dad painted it with John Deere "Black" and John Deere "Yellow" to match the loader it goes on

If you want to build one of these or are interested in more information, feel free to ask your questions here.

    Thank you Geezer

So if you had a mind to build one of these....what would you need for extra info? I covered basically everything I could think of as far as dimensions and plenty of pictures..

The pics do a great job all by themselves, the only thing I am curious about is how it is attached.
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

Yes, I don't think a video is necessary, but a couple of stills would be nice.

Here are some more pictures. To show how the loader attaches to the plate.

Any more questions....ASK! Glad to share helpful tips and thoughts.

Thanks, I just wasn't familiar with that type of quick attach.

I have done the same thing for a tractor dealer, converting his older Kubota stock buckets to quick attatch. Heres a few of it in progress. CAn't find the finished product though.

Yeah it's pretty new I think we've had quick attach for about 5-6 years...sure beats the 3" roller pins we have to drive out of our Massey Ferguson wheel loader bucket to switch to the forks. About an hour and a half and couple hundred cuss words from dad later we got it...

Looks real good Mark. So I'm curious how did you go about removing the factory brackets? Grinder or plasma...????

I local scrap dealer needed one of his buckets repaired. Turns out he takes small dumpsters and cuts them at an angle. Clever idea. Drive up with his bobcat and moves all the scrap around in them. Did not ask were the dumpsters come from.

Hey that is an idea worth while! Did he put the skid loader plate on? Or do those dumpsters have fork pockets? Sorry live way out in the middle of nowhere so no dumpsters to look at or in Yeah don't ask where they came from, especially if it looks freshly paint over a logo

Mike, here's a link to my dump box project probably kinda close to what he has for scraps. http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...5969#post15969

They look like that. I think the pickup plates are on the side. Next time I am there I will look. I know the stock ones, the truck drive up, and the arms are on the side, not back or bottom. Do not recall if that was modded. He rip the side on one and I did not pay much attention. But you could more them easy enough.

On painted logos, now I did look and there were no painted over logos, but stickers burn off.

It looks pretty much like the link (your bucket with the flames). So you might want to call around about old dumpsters. Most of the work might be done.

I just got a little MF, a GC2410 to be precise, a few months ago and was thinking about a set of forks and a quick attach, just hadn't looked into how it was done yet. At this point there are a lot more implements on the build list that have a higher priority.
