Provided you have a powerful enough splitter, you may want to think about angling the horizontal blades toward the canter just a bit, that is keeping them horizontal, but tapering them a bit so that they slightly pull the wood toward the centerline of the main wedge. Most of the 4 split wedges tend to push the logs apart and provide unsatisfactory splitting on the horizontal split. The downside is that it requires a bit more splitting force as it increases the friction force against the main wedge.
