Default DVA new to Everlast Forum

Hi, I am David. I work as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear industry. I grew up making things and helping in a family friend’s machine shop. I have always liked fabricating things and started welding about two years ago. My first welder was the HF 90 amp flux-core welder and was hooked after a few mins. I moved up to a Miller 252 welder and it is awesome, too bad my HF welder was stolen last year, it was fun to weld with but my torch got extremely hot. I have been looking for a TIG welder and a plasma cutter would be nice also. Have joined this form because I am leaning towards an Everlast TIG machine. I do not see why the Dynasty or Maxstar equipment is so expensive. I will start a projects thread with an insulated smoker I have fabricated.

    Welcome aboard David,

Post up your project, we all like pictures.

Any questions on our TIGs, post them up as well. You will find we have great tech support (weekends too) and a great crew on our forum as well.

We have a few guys with smokers in process right now.

Just posted thread with my project. Search my posts and you will find it. I have added some fabrication pictures as well as well as the finished product. I do not have the early pictures because the computer that I had the pictures on was stolen last year with my HF welder.

    Hi David,

My main machine was also a HF 90A Flux core welder. When it died I ripped out it's guts and made it into a C02 shielded wire feeder for my Bobcat welder. I can't wait to see that smoker. Welcome to the forum.

There are some free hosting sites you could keep backups on, like imageshack or photobucket. You could also make a backup image of your hard drive to a portable one and store it in a different location.

The Miller inverter machines are nice, but are expensive! It would be hard for me to justify the expense. Everlast has been good to me, and I have like all of my Everlast welders.

The HF 90A welder was not all that bad for a 100 dollar welder. I modified it to take a 10 lb. spool. Just used 1" square 16 gauge tube steel and made a bracket fastened by the sheet metal screws securing the sheet metal cover. Had to drill a hole in the back side of the welder to access the wire feeder then wire went from $45-50 for 10 lbs vs $10-12 for 1 pound of wire.

I love my Millermatic 252 but do not want to throw down 4-5K for a TIG welder. I have flown model airplanes for a long time and over the last few years I have been purchasing many products from the different Asian distributers. Some products have had issues but by in large they are just as good as the so called name brand products sold in the states. Some of the parts I have purchased are almost identical to the name brands. Some of the products I have purchased are AC motor speed controllers that take DC batteries and convert the power supply to AC; basically they are small inverter welder but power a motor. With the response I have found in much searching about Everlast welders I am not too concerned about receiving a quality product.

    Also thanks for the link.

I've been doing a lot of direct from China buying myself lately. Head to head, I haven't found the quality to be all that good, but when you consider the low, low prices, it is certainly adequate, and probably a better deal in most instances, although I don't think I would buy life support equipment from them.

I've been happy with the PP60 so far, I'd have to say that even though the quality is noticeably Chinese, it seems to be a step above the stuff I've gotten from Harbor Freight.
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

Same for me. Sometime you look at the price and what you get and it fits the bill. I have a HF twin cut, thing is really nice. I see their prices going up too. Everlast is always improving. Oleg, Duncan are the keys. Mark Ray and I relay. So our products are always getting better. Titan Winch is another good example. I have a TW and a HF winch. No comparison which is better, but they are spec'd per Duncan and why they are so nice. Products made there can be nice, but we have to pay for that quality while we try to keep our prices down.

And when I go to HF, I know what I bought in the past and will never buy there again. Only make that mistake once. But at $9.99 over $1500 and HF you can see their product. They still have an advantage there, though our products are much better.

Word of mouth does it for us, and the rare person that does a rant here in public, rather than call in, do nothing but a disservice for others as the more unit we sell the better we get. Everyone's unit has a warranty and we have not refused one yet. Been that way for 8-9 years now. So it looks like we are here to stay...
