So, I got this trailer, and want to turn it into a decent utility trailer/car hauler. The decking was expanded metal, and overall, it has been subject to years of abuse.
Here's a pic with the decking removed as I'm removing the old siderails and fenders with the plasma cutter.
This is where one really begins to appreciate the value if a plasma cutter versus a standard cutting torch- The decking material was expanded metal, and had been ripped to shreds. I have a real dislike for expanded metal after about 15 stitches in the back of my calf as a teenager. I'm thinking a combination of wood and 1/8" diamond plate steel for the new deck. I will be designing and building a toolbox to go in the triangular space behind the hitch. With all the other stuff I got going on, I estimate the completion of this some time in mid-November. As I still have a ton of painting/stucco repair to finish while the weather is nice. (got another stucco job whiledoing the one I'm on). Here, I have both of the fenders removed, and all the guard rails taken off.
There wasn't a straight section on the rails more than 18 inches long ANYWHERE. So, Other than the basic bottom frame, and axles, this will be a complete, new trailer.
