Thread: New Power Pro 256 Problems or User?

  1. Default New Power Pro 256 Problems or User?

Just hooked up new Powerpro 256. I'm trying out the plasma cutter and even turned all the way up it wont cut 3/8. I have good power and plenty of air. I've tried several settings on pressure. I've tried with standoff and without and tried different consumables. Any Ideas? Everlast isn't open today and I'm out of town for the next few days.

    Yes,
You can call in on the weekends and leave a message, and you may get a return call anyway, or at least get in line for one for Monday.

The standoff should be less than 1/8" and closer if you can.

    What was your psi?

I assume you had it turned up? Is the torch in the negative?

    What about your work clamp?

  3. Default

I don't have such a machine, but I can throw out some ideas...
Is the work clamp connection good? Switch on machine set to plasma?
Is the work clamp in the (+) connector and plasma torch in the (-) connector?

    eta... beat by 4 minutes!

Work clamp is good, Torch in -, clamp in +, and I've tried from 40 - 60 psi

Do you get a pilot arc when you press the torch button ? (torch away from the work piece)

i got it! It was a loose connection where the torch is attached at the unit. Still seems a little slow. I would like to try the 1.0 tips.

The 1mm tips will give you a smaller kerf, but limit your amps so if you get some, note they are best on thinner sheet. The 1.2mm will cut sheet metal fine, you just want dry air, a guide (when possible) and move at a good constant speed.

Also, we cover the forum and some of the techs return calls on the weekend as well as from the forum.

What amp range is appropriate for the 1.0mm and 1.2mm nozzles?

1mm and 1.2mm are very close so the amps will be about the same (20-60 amp should be fine), but again, depends on the person moving the torch as well, and dry air will make the consumable last longer..

    OK, thanks.
I had the impression that the 1.2mm was for ~80 amps.
The 1.2mm is 20% larger diameter than the 1.0mm, and 44% more area.

Not to hi-jack this thread but..

I think some go up to 6 or 7mm and probably higher. The 1.2mm can be used on an 80 amp. Next time I talk to the Trafimet rep will try to remember to ask, but sure he will say there is no set number just a range. Like welding, no two guys seem to ever be the same, just close.

I have A81 swirl rings and nozzles on order so probably soon (after Thanksgiving).
