Thread: I-Mig 250p volts ?

  1. #1

    Default I-Mig 250p volts ?

I was welding with the 250p today and noticed that the voltage is adjustable from 14.5v to 28.5v is this correct ? The specs say 16v to 26.5v
Also the Amp display always has a - in front of the number is this normal ?

I really like this machine, it's very different from my little hobart transformer.

With the MIG machine it should be running Constant Voltage, and the current will adjust depending on your stick out and your wire speed. If the I-MIG 250P will hold 28.4 V that is awesome, that is about where my Miller 252 tops out. I have never needed anything past 24 volts on my Miller, with 28.4 Volts that is some serious heat output.

Trying recollect a discussion with the factory, and the deviation in that spec I believe...it is because that is the pulse voltage, and the figure they use I believe is based on average voltage.

I thought I edited my first post earlier, but anyway... it's 14.5 volts at the bottom and 28.5 at the top. I built up the end of a 14ga 2x2 square tube today by welding straight on the edge @ 14.5/100 pulse off. One leg was a hair short on one of the two welding tables that I made out of one old big one.

I am interested in getting the power i-mig 250p. How do you like it and how is the pulse feature? I never used a mig with pulse before. It seams like this one serious machine. I would give my lincoln up in a second for this machine.

That thing is a Cadillac and I absolutely love it. I didn't like the torch that came with it at all so I replaced it with a really nice 20' profax torch. I'm still learning about pulse through experimentation. The manuals (online) are extremely basic and don't offer much in the way of suggestions or examples but I guess people that have taken welding classes don't need that stuff.
Basic training videos for all the everlast machines (on the virtually empty youtube channel) would be a great asset to everlast.

    I highly recommend the I-Mig 250p.

If you let the wire touch when you pull the trigger, you still get gas and wire feed, but no arc and you'll have to turn the machine off then back on to continue.
Transformer machines don't do this... not complaining, just noting a difference. I really like my I-MIG 250p.
that was giving people trouble on the Imig 200. There's a good answer for what causes the machine to not start.

Can you use the pulse on steel, or is this mainly used for aluminum. One day I'm going to jump up to a 250p or MTS 400. I sold my ebay plasma cutter and I'm gathering up some pennies for an Everlast Plasma. If I get another coupon I may just get a 250p.

You can use the pulse on steel if you'd like or turn it completely off. I didn't like the nozzle being hot (electrified) on the oem torch when welding and the spatter stuck to it like mad. The new 20' profax torch that I bought is perfect on this machine and I highly recomend it.
