Project #1 (200 EXT Contest) by DVA: Jig for making BBQs
I needed a jig to help weld up some BBQs made out of sheet metal to ensure the front face remains square when all the peaces are tacked up. It is tricky to tack weld large peaces of sheet metal with out the proper tool so the jig was made to aid with the process.
The jig will consist of a 2"X2" 11 gauge tubing measuring 49 inches long and 21 inches wide. Main part of the jig is not welded yet.
The jig will be mounted on a rolling frame that will allow the jig to be rotated and locked in place to assist with assembly of the BBQs. The frame was fabricated out of 1.5"X1.5" 14 gauge tubing. The frame measures 53 inches long 20 inches wide and 29 inches tall with out wheels.
Current product purchased: 30' 1.5" 14 gauge square tubing ($40), 20' 2" 11 gauge tubing ($50.00), 3" gussets about $5
Current tools used: Grinders, Dry Cut Saw, Mig Welder, Belt/Disk Sander, Clamps, Welding Magnets and a File
I will post more pictures as the project progresses. Current time input is about 4 hrs.
