  1. Default 205p Mig

    Hi To all,
I'm new to this forum ,And I need help. I just got a new 205p mig that can't find manual for, and I also got 60 plasma that I sent back, that did not work right out of the box there going to send another but I need help with settings on the 205p mig.
Thankyou for any help you can give me.

    Ernie,
You got to give us a little more to go on as far as your parameters and what you are wanting to do... The basic operation is the same manual online for the I MIG series. But, Setting a pulse mig is NOT easy, and its something you will have to learn by feel rather than a 1,2,3 setting that we can tell you.

I'm trying to weld flux core wire useing the sitting in the manual, but isn't working.
If I use the settings for gas it works a little better.

Yes. The settings are for gas. Flux core is compeltely different. Pulse MIG is not for flux core typically, especially that size unit..just not enough power.
Are you using flux core drive wheels? Some people get by without them, but results are typically better with them.

Could you expand on this please ? Maybe I've missed something but I believe people use flux core every day on welders with half the output of a 205. When pulse volts = base volts pulse is effectively off isn't it ?

Pulse has an off button..at least on the newest models. Though Pulse should be off when pulse volts are equal(or fully left??hmm got to think on that one).

I said "PULSE"...Not saying it wouldn't weld, but that the 205 didn't have the umphh to cross over to spray in steel...particularly with flux core. That is why.

What do you mean by "isn't working" ? Be specific about what's happening... more detail = better advise.

thanks for the help, I didn't know you couldn't use flux core on the 205p.
I'll keep my little pack 10 linclon for flux core and the old hobart for stick and when I get the regulator that they forgot to ship maybe I can use the 205 for aluminum.

Ernie, one thing that will keep flux core from working at all, is that flux core must be negative polarity. If the cable isn't stuck in the negative port, then you are going to have a problem.
