Thread: Start amp knob?

  1. #1

    Default Start amp knob?

If I turn the start amps knob on the 250EX all the way to the left, is it off?
I'm trying to weld some very thin Aluminum and it doesn't seem to want to start and arc. just fizzles around trying. I've set the amps anywhere fro the lowest to about 30 amps and adjusted the start amps knob all over with no luck.
It weld fine and starts fine with more amps.

Also, I've turn the amps down as low as it will go and it says "9". I was thinking this unit would go to 5 amps?

Are you using the foot pedal? AC start is 20 amps.

Yes, using the foot pedal. I don't think there's anything wrong with the welder because it works great for everything else, probably just me.

You still want me to call you? Today or Monday?

Foot pedal isn't as sensitive, and could have a slow spot and for best low amp starts, you should be using the tig torch switch.
But make sure your unit is in 2T as well.

Here's one area, I recommend customers looking into the US pedal for more accurate control.

OK, called Ray.... I'm using 1/16th Tungsten and he recommends smaller Tungsten.
I'll try the torch switch too.

So when I turn the Amperage down all the way and it say "9" while in AC, I should not pay attention to the number and just know that the low mark in AC is 20amps?
